Description
Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to 'embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives.' The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery's innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies - from conception through childhood - can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services and outpatient therapies.
The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) I is an individual who has had significant life-altering experience with substance use disorder and are living in recovery. The work involves a variety of tasks working collaboratively with staff of all levels to help facilitate client recovery. The PSS I will promote pro-social community activities, recovery, self-advocacy, self-help, and development of a support system.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • In accordance with the vision, mission and values of Hushabye Nursery, the Peer Support Specialist I is responsible for providing quality care and services that meets the needs of person's served.
  • Provides care and services in a supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner that is sensitive to the patient's and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Uses past experiences to provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to individuals seeking or in active recovery.
  • Assists clients in identifying effective coping techniques, self-help strategies, and increasing social support networks.
  • Collaborates with local programs and assist participants in accessing community resources and support services. Ensuring having up-to-date information and locating specialized resources as needed.
  • Facilitates or assists in group and individual settings to promote recovery.
  • Serve as an advocate for the participants (including DCS meetings and writing letters of recommendation for participants as requested).
  • Works in a variety of settings providing support, guidance, and education for individuals seeking or in active recovery.
  • Observes all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and externally.
  • Completes necessary activities and documentation related to grant funded projects, where applicable.
  • Adheres to deliverable timelines, both internally and externally.
  • Report child abuse and/or neglect as in accordance to Arizona State law.
  • Completes required orientation and continuing competencies as required by policy and procedure.
  • May be required to cover evening/weekend hours and be "on call" as required and needed
  • Completes clinical documentation of services performed within required time (24 hours) and in accordance with all regulatory bodies assuming responsibility to assure accurate and thorough maintenance of their medical records.
  • Act as a part of the clinical team to assess member needs, participate in the development of individual service plans, and act as a member advocate and liaison with families and community agencies.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 6 months of experience as a peer support or similar work experience (preferred)
  • Minimum one year in recovery
  • Experience with navigating a behavioral health system and other community support programs is preferred
  • Valid driver's license may be required for Peer Support Specialists providing transportation to clients
  • Must have a valid level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card upon applying
  • Peer support certification
EDUCATION (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
  • High school or equivalent (Required)
