From relatively close supervision to no supervision based on abilities, provides for day to day departmental operation and in-house technical assistance with installation, calibration, inspection, maintenance, performance verification, and repair of clinical equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Installation, calibration, inspection, maintenance, performance verification, and repair of clinical applied electronic / mechanical equipment.

Repair, inspections and installations as assigned by supervisor.

• Identifies opportunities for continuous improvements of services / systems and processes.
• Maintain documentation on all equipment, inspections, equipment repairs and failures. Make recommendations on new equipment and testing procedures to the supervisor.
• Assist, manage and monitor third-party maintenance and repairs as assigned.
• May be assigned to provide optional leadership to personnel regarding equipment repair and failures. Possibly serve as temporary supervisor in the absence of the supervisor based on experience.
• Report outcome of preventative maintenance action and make recommendations to department supervisor concerning improvements.
• May be asked to provide in-service education to hospital staff as requested on the use of equipment.
• Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Maintains clinical equipment at the highest standard possible.
• Performs functions for the Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Experience with computer programs (WORD, Excel).
• Ability to comprehend instructions and effectively communicate.
• Basic skill in testing electronic equipment.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Knowledge of electronic theory, technology and test equipment.
• Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedical equipment.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, performing inspections and data bases for inventory control. Ability to run diagnostic programs.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission (JC) and State standards as they relate to Clinical Engineering.
• Knowledge in testing electronic equipment, electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
• Knowledge of infectious diseases. Ability to prioritize preventative maintenance, repairs and projects without supervision.
• Ability to control costs without sacrificing quality of equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Electronics Associate degree or biomedical equipment technology is highly desirable, as well as experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Military experience will be evaluated.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Several years of experience in a Medical Center Clinical Engineering environment is favorable.
