JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction accountable for planning and directing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), environmental sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and initiatives, including Injury and Illness Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Workers’ Compensation, Environmental Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Health Promotion, and support of corporate initiatives. Implement programs and policies designed to ensure compliance with EHS laws and regulations and reduce the company’s EHS risks in accordance with business objectives. Identify and comply with legal requirements and government reporting regulations. Ensure quality operations of EHS processes and compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops strategic plans to achieve the company’s objectives for EHS, environmental sustainability, and CSR.

2. Sets clear, challenging goals for the EHS Department personnel aligned with the company’s strategic goals.

3. Ensures staff is adequately trained for assigned duties.

4. Represents Hydranautics on matters related to EHS, environmental sustainability and CSR to key external stakeholders (e.g. regulators, community, industry peers).

5. Establishes partnerships within the Hydranautics’ organization to proactively influence the integration of EHS, environmental sustainability, and CSR into operational activities and plans.

6. Participates in meetings with key external stakeholders, including matters which require negotiations on behalf of Hydranautics.

7. Provides critical project leadership, staffing requirements, and related financial budgets for EHS, environmental sustainability and CSR initiatives.

8. Identifies, evaluates and communicates problems and makes recommendations for solutions to executive management.

9. Directs the implementation of EHS, environmental sustainability, and CSR initiatives as required by the Nitto Group (RoHS, REACH Conflict Minerals, Green Procurement Guidelines, CSR and related programs)

10. Manages third-party onsite security services.

11. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist

2. Onsite security officers

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

1. BS Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or Business; and 3-5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The following are desirable:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

1. Expert knowledge in Cal-OSHA regulations and ability to apply them in a manufacturing environment.

2. Experience working with local, State and Federal agencies such as EPA, Cal/OSHA, air pollution control districts, water agencies, Department of Environmental Health (hazardous materials), and the fire department.

3. Experience with environmental reporting such as EPA Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) report, DTSC Biennial Hazardous Waste Report, CUPA Hazardous Materials Inventory Report, Industrial Wastewater and Storm Water Discharges Report, SB14 report.

4. Experience in managing chemical process operations.

5. Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess situations, apply appropriate regulations, and take corrective action.

6. Established leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and negotiate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

7. Ability to interpret complex regulations and protocols and to work with precedents.

8. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with sensitivity to other cultures in order to successfully achieve outcomes.

9. Ability to communicate professionally, verbally and in writing.

10. Ability to motivate and evaluate staff, manage projects and personnel.

11. Intermediate or higher skill level in Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and MS Word.

The following are preferred:

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES:

1. Occupational Health and Safety Professional Certification

2. CPR/First Aid Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and/or WORK ENVIRONMENT: (Typical physical demands and the work environment characteristics an employee must meet and encounter while performing the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

1. Ability to communicate effectively in English, and work under the pressure of meeting performance objectives and project deadlines.

2. This position requires 50-60% of time sitting at a desk doing sedentary reports, research; work with a computer, and attending meetings and 30-40% of time interacting on the factory floor, warehouses or labs.

3. Ability to occasionally lift and carry items (such EHS monitoring equipment or fire extinguishers) up to 25 pounds.

4. Ability to finger, grasp, and feel objects occasionally (up to 3 hours/day).

5. Fine hand manipulation of light-moderate strength is required for computer work.

6. Requires close (clear vision at 20 inches or less), and distance (clear vision at 20 feet or more) vision.

7. Subject to periodic exposure to varying temperatures, exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels, fumes, and chemicals or hazardous materials while using personal protective equipment when required.

8. Must be able to work overtime and respond to emergencies that may arise in a 24-hour operation.

9. Availability and willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the year.

10. Must possess a valid driver’s license and remain qualified as a Driver under the Hydranautics Driver Policy.

11. Must be able to work overtime in accordance to the demands of the business.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $107,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
