Location: Full-Remote/Hybrid/On-site (Petaluma, CA or Boise, ID)
Reports to: SVP, Engineering

Position Overview: We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining highly resilient SaaS applications on AWS, ensuring 24x7 uptime, improving our security posture, and zero downtime releases. You will play a key role in advising cloud architecture, service migration, and guiding 24x7 operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • SaaS Application Resilience: Implement and maintain highly resilient SaaS applications on AWS, ensuring 24x7 uptime and high availability.
  • Security Best Practices: Design and implement robust security measures to enhance our security posture and protect our data and infrastructure.
  • Monitoring and Alerts: Improve monitoring and alert systems to ensure rapid detection and resolution of issues, enabling efficient runbook management.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery plans, including regular backups and risk management strategies.
  • Zero Downtime Releases: Design and implement processes and tools to achieve zero downtime releases, minimizing service disruption during updates.
  • Service Migration: Migrate services from EC2 to cloud-native stacks, such as serverless architectures, ECS, and managed databases and queues.
  • AWS Cost Optimization: Assist with AWS cost analysis and optimization, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effective solutions.
  • System Administration: Administer Windows and Linux servers, as well as serverless and containerized systems, ensuring smooth operations and maintenance.
  • Database Management: Oversee database administration, scaling, and migration for SQLServer, MySQL, and Postgres databases.
  • AWS Networking: Implement and manage networking on AWS, including VPC configuration, DNS management, and CloudFront integration.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines following best practices, ensuring smooth and efficient deployment processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with SOC2 framework and other relevant standards, maintaining the integrity and security of our systems.
  • Runbook Management: Manage runbooks and support 24x7 operations, providing clear and actionable procedures for incident response and resolution.
Required Qualifications
  • AWS Expertise: 5 years of experience managing the AWS technology stack, including IoT core, EC2, ECS, Redshift, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, Kinesis, RDS, and Cognito.
  • System Administration: Strong experience with system administration for both Windows and Linux servers.
  • Serverless and Containers: Hands-on experience deploying and managing solutions with serverless and containerized systems.
  • Database Skills: Proficiency in database administration, scaling, and migration for databases such as SQLServer, MySQL, and Postgres.
  • Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding and implementation experience of networking on AWS, including VPC, DNS, and CloudFront.
  • CI/CD Proficiency: 5 years of experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and following best practices.
  • Site Reliability and Security: Deep knowledge and experience with site reliability and security best practices for SaaS environments.
  • Communication Protocols: Knowledge of communication protocols, including UDP, TCP, and Websockets.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced certifications in AWS.
  • Experience in IoT solutions and related AWS services.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a SaaS company.
  • Familiarity with the SOC2 framework and compliance requirements.
