Job Description

Conduct product performance testing and characterization as well as possess expertise in a testing area or material component to help establish test methods and provide analysis and direction for project teams. Maintain multiple TrafficJet printers including the periodic maintenance, replacement of parts, troubleshooting, and keeping supplies. This role is on 1st shift, 7AM-3PM.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending on specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

• Print inks using TrafficJet printers on multiple sheeting types. This includes loading inks into the printer, loading rolls of sheeting, and laminating completed print jobs. 

• Maintain the printers by performing periodic maintenance including printhead replacement, system flushing, and troubleshooting.

• Test printed ink samples using colorimeter and reflectometer for compliance to multiple regional specifications. Make recommendations for ink adjustment when required. 

• Catalog inks and track lifecycle through thermal testing, perform jetting tests, filter ink and inspect cleanliness. 

• Test printed inks for dryness/cure and adhesion using wipe tests and scratch tests.

• Inventories and orders laboratory supplies as needed for printer maintenance and sheeting types for printing.

• Conduct daily maintenance, calibration, verification, and cleaning of laboratory equipment.

• Supports the testing and inspection of products and raw materials at various stages of the production process in compliance with all applicable test methods (raw incoming materials, in-development, WIP, finished goods, product age testing). 

• Sets up test apparatus and conducts testing following established methods, procedures, and standards.

 Testing & Research

• Conduct developmental tests for new and/or modified products or product components.

• Conduct lab testing in support of product development (R&D), project management, production, customer response (claims), and process technology.

• Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests and/or research on raw materials, in-development, and finished products.

• Duties usually consist of conducting measurements, performing quantitative and qualitative analytical tests, and proper disposal of hazardous materials. The work environment includes manufacturing, warehouse, and laboratory settings.

• May participate in the development, maintenance, and refinement of internal quality control and reliability programs. 

• Operate analytical equipment (e.g., Retro reflectometer, release tester, colorimeter, instron, shear tester, viscometer, etc.)

• Special testing and projects as directed.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.

 Observing, Recordkeeping & Evaluating

• Makes and records observations; performs calculations, analyzes data, and collects and prepares data for evaluation.

• Interprets analytical results, draws conclusions and theories, and communicates the impact of product performance. 

• Delivers timely and accurate analytical results for the purposes of supporting production, research projects, testing, troubleshooting, and resolving customer complaints.

• Makes recommendations regarding improvements to test methodology.

• Performs technical and record-keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.

• Entering data into various spreadsheets and databases (QIS, MFGPro).

• Input/update all systems with details, results, and product specs ensuring all specifications and work instructions correspond.

• Update quality systems to show the status of conforming / non-conforming materials. 

• Ensure adherence to operating standards to ensure safe work practices, maximize productivity and minimize scrap and machine downtime.

• Recommend, support, and implement improvements to quality initiatives.

• Ensure safety and housekeeping efforts are supported.

QMS Systems

• Understand and implement ISO 9001 system processes and procedures.

• Create and maintain QMS documentation including procedures, work instructions, forms, and records.

• Support all other QMS projects as directed by the Quality Manager.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Associate's Degree or Technician Certification a plus.

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

• 1 - 2 years related experience.

• Mechanical aptitude necessary to maintain highly sensitive printer equipment.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good verbal and written skills.

• Skilled in interfacing effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

• Actively seeks knowledge, skills, and experience in order to grow and develop.

Preferred Requirements:

• Proficiency with various types of procedures and analytical equipment (e.g., Retro reflectometer, release tester, colorimeter, instron, shear tester, photometer, viscometer, etc.).

• Proficiency using computer systems, such as the Google platform, Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, QIS, and function-specific software.
