Job Title: Football Assistant Coach.

  • Location: USAF Academy , CO 80840

Located six miles south of the main Air Force Academy cadet area, the Preparatory School’s Commander, faculty, and staff work to prepare a diverse group of “cadet candidates” in academics, athletics, character development, and military training to succeed and lead at the Academy. Cadet candidates are not guaranteed an appointment to the Academy but earn consideration and a recommendation from the Preparatory School Commander by successfully completing the 10-month Prep School program.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s Degree Required

- Ability to demonstrate football skills, game and training strategies and teaching progressions.

- Ability to communicate with and relate well to male athletes and female and male managers. (JOB REQUIREMENT)

- Successful and competitive experience in American football at the college level.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff utilizing excellent communication and customer service skills.

- Previous college-level coaching experience preferred.

- Previous coaching experience at the college level or exemplary success at the high school level preferred.

- Experience coaching on offensive, defensive or special teams side of the ball.

- Full-time college coaching experience at the Division I, II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Junior College or high school varsity level including graduate assistant (GA) work.

- Experience with HUDL and Microsoft Office programs.

Ancillary Training. Participate in ancillary training IAW applicable documentation (instructions, standards, etc. At a minimum, the following Government provided courses via the MY TRAINING application, Computer Based Training (CBT), or classroom attendance shall be completed within thirty (30) days after contract award. Other training may be required at the request of the COR.

Description of Services

3.1 Practices begin in July of each year and the playing season ends in November.

3.1.1. The contractor shall provide coaching management and administration within all aspects of a competitive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) program resulting in a positive and beneficial intercollegiate experience for student-athletes.

3.1.2. The contractor will be responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach, which include, but not limited to, team travel, game scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, community service and other daily operations for the program.

3.1.3 Key areas of responsibility will include day-to-day operations under the direction of the Head Football Coach or designated appointee with an emphasis on game planning and preparation.

3.1.4 Conduct all aspects of the program within the rules, regulations, and procedures of the NCAA, conference, and athletic department policy manual.

3.1.5 Attend and participate in football department meetings and rules education sessions.

3.1.6 Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic and cultural

backgrounds to instill commitment discipline and teamwork.

3.2 Non-Game Day Practice and Strength Training Tasks

3.2.1 The contractor shall monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes, in conjunction with the Strength and Athletic Training Staff.

3.2.2 Participates in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponent teams and assists in designing practice plans and game plan strategies.

3.2.3 The contractor shall provide leadership, organization, supervision for all practices in conjunction with head coach teach specific offensive, defensive, and special teams skills, demonstrate drills, and correct player deficiencies in respective skills.

3.2.4 The contractor shall meet with the Head Coach or designated appointee to go over practice plans, identify instructional points of emphasis, and other pertinent information.

3.2.5 Encourage and create an atmosphere of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect among the football staff, coaches, and student-athletes.

3.2.6 Assist in scouting of opponents including the exchange and analysis of film.

3.2.7 Lead skill development workouts/drills.

3.2.8 The Contractor shall lead stretching activities.

3.2.9 Coach and provide feedback with fundamental skills work.

3.2.9.1 Team/Position Specific Offensive Drills

3.2.9.2 Team/Position Specific Defensive Drills

3.2.9.3 Team/Position Special Teams Drills

3.2.10 Coach and provide feedback in teaching team defensive concepts.

3.2.11 Coach and provide feedback in teaching team offensive concepts.

3.2.12 Coach and provide feedback in teaching game situations.

3.2.13 After practice - storage and security of equipment.

3.2.14 Pre/Post Practice Strength Training (No Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

(CSCS) Certification Required)

3.2.14.1 Five Days a Week (45-Minute Sessions)

3.2.14.2 Help enforce weight room health and safety protocols

3.2.14.3 Demonstrate exercises/lifts

3.2.14.4 Instruct/Correct student-athletes

3.3 Game Days Tasks

3.3.1. Home Games (Husky Field) – 3 to 4 games, schedule dependent.

3.3.1.1. Arrive 4 hours prior to kickoff

3.3.1.2. Instruct and oversee pre-game warmups and field set up

3.3.1.3. Mentor and inspire athletes in pre-game talk in locker room

3.3.1.4. The contractor shall keep track of necessary in game statistics such as down & distance, yards gained and penalties.

3.3.1.5. The contractor shall provide input on substitutions based on performance of player

and in game situations.

3.3.1.6. Track statistics and provide in-game feedback to head coach/coordinator.

3.3.1.7. Arrive on time for transportation to game.

3.3.2. Away Games 3.3.2.1. Arrive on time for transportation to game.

3.3.2.2. Provide the same game day tasks (above) as home games

3.4. Travel

3.4.1. The contractor shall be required to travel on overnight away trips.

3.4.2. The contractor shall comply with the Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) to the extent possible.

3.4.3. The contractor shall keep all receipts during travel and submit all incidentals to the COR in Wide Area Workflow (WAWF).
