Description :
Engineers software solutions based upon client requirements and supervises a staff of engineers as required, system testing, and appraising and presenting solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• The Engineer shall be experienced in the operation and maintenance of weather equipment. Have knowledge of probability and statistics with experience with software development for monitoring and tracking equipment performance and data transformation. To include knowledge of field maintenance, including fault isolation and repair of electronic equipment at the modular replacement level, in addition to experience in installation, maintenance, alignment, and repair of
electronic equipment.
• Must have experience working and participating with other engineers and technicians in investigating, analyzing, testing, diagnosing, modifying, and collecting complex electronic systems, sub-systems, and equipment; experience explaining complex technical problems and coordinating maintenance actions with technicians to affect repair.
• Provide engineering support for all Surface Observing Programs. This support includes systems reliability and maintenance analysis; engineering functions; generating performance statistics for all commissioned ASOSs; maintenance of related system availability and reliability files; document review and comment; and generation of draft documents, schedules, and charts.
• Coordinate participation of NWS regions in the implementation of ASOS modifications and product improvements. This support entails maintaining and executing a Visual Basic application that analyzes ASOS Syslog files for as many as 1000 deployed ASOS.
• Provides engineering support for the ASOS Maintenance Program, including systems reliability and maintenance; engineering functions; generating performance statistics for all commissioned ASOSs; maintaining related system availability and reliability files; document review and comment; and generation of draft documents, schedules, and charts.
• Maintains and revises software programs used in generating ASOS statistics, including modifying programs to accommodate management requests for specific information, requests from other government agencies, and requests from NWS regional headquarters and field offices.
• Conduct engineering analyses, investigations, assessments, and evaluations of ASOS system performance using the ASOS Syslog and Observational data. Coordinates with the ASOS Operations and Monitoring Center and the National Climatic Data Center for the delivery of data sets. Identifies ASOS systems that have poor availability or high failure rates by analyzing ASOS Syslog files and producing detailed charts using Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Generates monthly ASOS performance reports.
• Develops, monitors, and reviews engineering and maintenance documentation for acquiring, testing, and implementing surface equipment and hydrologic programs.
• Used ASOS Syslog files to review the performance of operations and maintenance for systems , including hardware availability, reliability, and trend analysis. Develops maintenance and logistics documentation for the operations and maintenance of operational systems in the field. • Performs detailed analyses of existing and proposed programs, including requirements, specifications, performance parameters, and projected obsolescence.
Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:
- Education: BS/MS in Engineering
- Experience: 10 years of engineering experience.
