What You’ll Be Doing

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations related to our property management activities. This includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, exceptional organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Working closely with our Corporate Controller and CFO, you may be responsible for the following functions including but not limited to:

  • Oversee daily accounting operations related to property management, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance for company-owned properties.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Manage the annual budget preparation process and provide ongoing support for budget monitoring and forecasting.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, tenant ledgers, and other key financial accounts.
  • Collaborate with property managers to ensure accurate and timely rent collections, lease accounting, and expense reporting.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage liquidity to ensure the financial health of the property management division.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide support for special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
Required Skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification a plus, but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a property management or real estate environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and other relevant accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (MS Dynamics Great Plains is ideal!) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working in a family-office is preferred with the adaptability and flexibility to shift projects and balance priorities.
