From your PASSION to ours Under the direction of Plant and Safety leadership, a EHS Specialist assists in planning, directing, and implementing stated organizational safety programs that ensure a safe, healthy, accident-free work environment by performing the essential duties of the position. Effective communication abilities are essential to this role. The EHS Specialist works with Management to coordinate safety procedures in each department. This role will also participate in the administration of the worker's compensation program. An EHS Specialist can also be tasked with gathering, preparing, and providing evidence on behalf of the organization for use in audits, lawsuits, hearings, and insurance claims. Requirements From your EXPERTISE to ours Key responsibilities for this position include: Actively enforce all Company, Health and Safety, policies and procedures, Food Safety, policies and procedures, and GMP policies and procedures as mandated by Management. Daily supervision and oversight of floor safety team members. Active communication with Management about known or ongoing floor safety issues. Help ensure that all plant safety team members complete assigned safety training. Assist in documenting and reporting on all areas of EHS. Actively work to engage all employees in a continuous effort towards a culture of safety and safety improvement. Investigate and document safety incidents, violations, and corrective actions. Document and input data pertaining to the management and storage of hazardous materials and environmental toxins that may be present in the workplace. Actively enforce programs that mitigate human error, system, and / or process errors to prevent loss. Assist in developing training materials and training programs that effectively drive employee safety and company profitability. Provide EHS training to new and current employees as necessary. Work across the organizational structure to implement effective Safety initiatives and expenditures. Actively seek ways in which to mitigate any negative environmental impact from operations. Create and deliver reports, analyses and data driven material to support business decision making. Conduct performance reviews, disciplinary actions, coaching and mentoring as required. Assist in development of career progression for subordinate reports. Respond to calls on off hours for EHS related urgent concerns. Support Plant Directors/Management as needed to improve safety culture, training, communication, inspection and equipment safety. Participate in new equipment design with Engineering team and Management for topics related to EHS and development of new safety documents such as LOTO. Lead safety meetings with employees and submit reports to management on follow-up actions. Site tour/inspections at a minimum of once per week, and summary reports sent to management. Actively work to protect the proprietary information of the organization such as recipes, processes, and equipment. Participate / Act in improving our CSR results such as recycling, product loss outlet, Energy consumption Travel and/or extended or off-work hours may be required. Any other duties as required to support department and team success. From your STORY to ours Qualified applicants will contribute the following: Education A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study is preferred; GED required Experience A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a related field is required. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience, supervising a team of 6 or more people, is preferred. Specialized Knowledge Working knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 is preferred. Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations for a food manufacturing environment. Working knowledge and understanding of GMP. Understanding of chemical symbols and coding. Agri-food technology experience is preferred. Skills / Abilities Working math, algebra and geometry skills that include the ability to calculate averages and understand units of measure, run conversion equations, and use mechanical physics. Proficient with MS Office; including excel with emphasis on data analysis/trending. Must be able to read and apply information from technical manuals, vendor guides, chemical MSDS sheets and other technical documentation as pertains to safety enforcement.
