What do Substation Technicians do for us? Idaho Power is looking to hire two qualified Station Technicians at the Apprentice or Journeyman level - one on a Control Crew and another one a Combo Crew. A Combo Crew is generally made up of both Control and Structural Technicians. A description for each discipline is listed below: Control The Station Control Technician or Apprentice installs, commissions, and troubleshoots substation and power plant control systems, including system monitoring equipment, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Remedial Action Schemes (RAS), and protective relay, control, and communication systems. Structural The Station Structural Technician or installs substation and power plant ground grids, foundations, structures, breakers, transformers, buss, high and low-voltage cables, and other apparatus.
