We are currently seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to work with Dr. Jason Shrouder-Henry, a board certified Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeon.
ResponsibilitiesClinic Activities
- Secures histories and physical exams. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits.
- Interprets x-rays.
- Order additional imaging such as CTs and MRIs
- Performs joint aspirations/injections.
- Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician.
- Removes staples, sutures, etc.
- Prescribes medication
- Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision. Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval.
- Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls.
- Accurate and complete documentation of all patient visits
- Occasional peer to peer review for MRIs he/she has ordered
- Follow up calls as needed
- Occasional on call involvement - negotiable
- Optional involvement in surgery once per week
External: Patients, families, outside referral sources/physicians, hospital/or personnel, vendors, regulatory/insurance personnel.
RequirementsEducational Requirements
- Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Active Licensure as Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of Illinois.
- ACLS desirable; current CPR required.
- History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity.
- Able to speak/write English language fluently; knowledge of second language helpful but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- At least two years of experience in a physician office or hospital
- Training in orthopedic care preferred (1-2 years experience minimum)
- Ability to make independent decisions about patient care
- History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity.
- Experience diagnosing and treating patients
- Working knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a managed care and Medicare population
- Knowledge of practice management and EHR software
- Able to lift and assist patients, as needed.
- Must be a self-starter, highly organized with good time management skills.
- Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to document/record information.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well and communicate professionally with physicians, patients and staff in all levels in the organization.
- Able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
- Capable of prioritizing and organizing information to achieve a smooth flow of tasks in the office.
- Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strength and weaknesses of alternate solutions or approaches to a problem.
- Use of good judgment to determine if a problem requires consultation, referral or evaluation by the Supervising Physician or other health care professional.
