Illinois College is Hiring an Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Belonging Near Jacksonville, IL
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Belonging works closely with a wide variety of student organizations on campus programming and organizational development. The Assistant Director promotes student involvement and a strong, positive sense of community on campus. This work serves a diverse student population and contributes to a culture of student success, persistence, and graduation. The Assistant Director is a key member of the Center for Student Engagement, Inclusion, and Belonging (CSEIB) team and collaborates with other offices in supporting student organizations and planning campus events. This is a 10-month position, typically working August 1 - May 31 each year, with time off during the summer. Essential FunctionsThe following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. Advise and support student organizations across campus and serve as primary contact for student organization advisors.
Oversee Greek-Lettered Organizations, which include seven literary societies and the service organization APO; plan and facilitate GLO programming.
With the CSEIB professional team, plan and implement campus wide events including but not limited to campus traditions (Welcome Week, Homecoming, Family and Friends Weekend, Siblings Overnight), celebration months, and large-scale events hosted by the student programming team.
As part of the CSEIB team, coach students in their social, leadership, and academic development.
Manage student workers and interns including hiring, supervision, and scheduling.
Create, update, and/or maintain files, reports, and records, including Jenzabar, Presence, EMS, workflow software, website, and social media.
Perform other duties and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required
Strong organizational skills
Demonstrated experience with event planning and management
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships, engage in creative problem solving, and extend enlightened hospitality when working with others
Demonstrated commitment to a student- and learning-centered environment
Availability to implement and support evening and weekend events
Intercultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide variety of students, faculty, administration, staff, community members and outside vendors
Ability to manage budgets and use appropriate software for managing information
Ability to respond appropriately to a variety of student concerns of a sensitive or confidential nature
