This position serves as an SQL Database Administrator performing complex installations, systems configurations, testing, and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems. Essential Functions

25% Under administrative direction, serves as an SQL Database Administrator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):

  • Performs complex installations, systems configurations, testing, and implementation of software, hardware, and operating systems.
  • Implements and manages the operational aspects of cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built on SQL Server and Azure SQL services.
  • Utilizes a variety of methods and tools to perform and automate day-to-day operations, including applying knowledge of using Transact-SQL (T-SQL) and other tools for administrative management purposes.
  • Approves and documents installations and enhancements.
  • Coordinates complex enhancements and maintenance with the client.
  • Troubleshoots, deploys, and analyzes OLAP or tabular data models.

25% Conducts and coordinates in-depth feasibility studies involving substantial technical research and systems analysis:

  • Develops complex written IT analysis and recommendation documents.
  • Develops written implementations plans.
  • Provides complex technical assistance to clients and technicians pertaining to hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Conducts reviews of complex components and processes making recommendations for modifications to provide availability, flexibility, and usability for clients.
  • Reviews, creates, and modifies current configurations, tables, and programs.
  • Configures and maintains security requirements on servers.
  • Updates existing processes for installs and develops processes on configuration for the software that are installed and implemented.
  • Provides monitoring and reporting of software and servers.

20% Performs advanced problem diagnostics of complex operating systems and problems:

  • Monitors connectivity and utilizes software to notify of alerts.
  • Evaluates and resolves complex hardware and software problems.
  • Performs diagnosis and resolution of system software problems.
  • Confers with vendors to resolve software and hardware problems.
  • Serves as liaison between agency customers and DoIT management and technicians for resolution of customer requirements.
  • Monitors trouble tickets to ensure acceptable service levels to agencies within listed time frames are being met.
  • Escalates time sensitive trouble calls to appropriate person for faster resolution time.

Essential Functions Continued

20% Serves as project coordinator for full-range major/complex projects, very large hardware/software deployments and installations across multiple agencies and locations:

  • Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments.
  • Assigns and reviews the work of project analyst staff.
  • Provides expertise, guidance, and direction to staff.
  • Reviews results and incorporates individual components of project into the final products.

5% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.

5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  2. Requires three (3) years of professional experience in Systems Services or a related Information Technology field.

Specialized Skills

  1. Requires three (3) years of professional experience troubleshooting OLAP or tabular data models and deploying the model as a database to an Analysis Services instance, process the database to load it with data, and then assign permissions to allow data access.
  2. Requires three (3) years of professional experience utilizing Microsoft SQL Server (all current Microsoft supported versions), VMWare, Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Windows Server operating system support (all current Microsoft supported versions), and of technical concepts including Risk Management, Web Applications, Workflow, Data Management and Business Continuity Planning.
  3. Requires three (3) years of professional experience with Microsoft SQL High Availability features, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  4. Requires three (3) years of professional experience performing installation, configuration, performance troubleshooting, optimization, backup, and recovery of a SQL Server.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three (3) years of professional experience troubleshooting OLAP or tabular data models and deploying the model as a database to an Analysis Services instance, process the database to load it with data, and then assign permissions to allow data access.
  2. Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing Microsoft SQL Server (all current Microsoft supported versions), VMWare, Microsoft Windows Active Directory, Microsoft Windows Server operating system support (all current Microsoft supported versions), and of technical concepts including Risk Management, Web Applications, Workflow, Data Management and Business Continutiy Planning.

  7. Three (3 years) professional experience with cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built on SQL Server and Azure SQL services, including evaluating and implementing migration strategies between Azure and on-premises environments.
  8. Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  9. Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
  10. Working knowledge of data base structures and Microsoft Windows Server platform support.
