Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections at Hill Correctional Center is seeking a professional Barber. The ideal candidate will be able to manage and carry out the duties associated with beauty and hair care for a growing population of individuals in custody. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience in modern barbering techniques, methods, and practices. Job Responsibilities

  1. Supervises, instructs and trains individual barbers in cutting other individuals’ hair in the Barber shop.
  2. Certifies Barber Shop is in appropriate sanitary condition meeting public health and sanitation standards to ensure compliance with facility Housekeeping Plan.
  3. Supplies security staff at facility with current schedule of individual in custody barber services to ensure that proper security coverage is maintained throughout the presence of individual in custody.
  4. Requisitions and stores barber supplies and tools.
  5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate of registration as a barber.
  2. Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman barber.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prefers at least four (4) years of continuous experience in the Barbering Trade.
  2. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in modern barbering techniques, methods, and practices.
  3. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with basic first aid procedures.
  4. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in the safekeeping and sterilization of barbering tools.
  5. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience supervising Barbers in cutting other individual’s hair.
  6. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in meeting public health and sanitation standards to ensure compliance with a facility Housekeeping Plan.
  7. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in requisitioning and storing barber supplies and tools.
  8. Prefers at least (2) years of experience in supplying security staff at a facility and/or similar type of environment with a current schedule of barber services to ensure that proper security coverage is maintained throughout the presence of individuals.
  9. Prefers at least (2) years of experience in reporting any unusual occurrences within a facility Barber shop to security staff.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
