Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Steamfitter to work at Hill Correctional Center. The ideal candidate is a team player, self-motivated, task oriented, has excellent communication skills and shows great attention to detail. This position performs skilled tasks as the journeyman level in installing, repairing, operating, altering, and maintaining air handling and heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. Duties also include cleaning and replacing defective pipe and fittings, preparing reports of materials and supplies used and keeping inventory of materials and supplies on hand. Job Responsibilities

1. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on the facility's air handling units.
2. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on the facility's cooling equipment, i.e., walk-in freezers, walk-in coolers, and refrigeration units.
3. Maintains and repairs all boilers, pumps, chillers, heat pumps, conventional air conditioning units, and associated HVAC equipment and duct and piping systems.
4. Enforces and maintains security, safety, and custodial measures.
5. Maintain and repair the liquid transmission systems on the heating and air conditioning system.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman steamfitter.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers at least seven (7) years of experience working with the tools, materials, methods, practices, and limitations of the trade.
2. Prefers at least seven (7) years of experience using tools and equipment used in the trade.
3. Prefers at least seven (7) years of experience applying the principles of the trade.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
3. Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
4. Must possess a valid certificate of a Universal Technician under the USPEA Section 608.
