Imani House, Inc. is Hiring a Program Director, Elementary After School Near Brooklyn, NY

Imani House, Inc. (www.imanihouse.org) seeks a well balanced, experienced and seasoned Program Director for our Brooklyn elementary after-school and summer camp program for children grades pre-K to 5th grade.

We are looking for someone who is very reliable, a team player who is friendly but firm, energetic, and dedicated to the upliftment of inner-city children and their families. You should be willing to maintain the program's current assets and infuse new and interesting program possibilities alongside our Program Director Assistant, the Curricullum Assistant, the Executive Director and Staff.

You are qualified if you can answer yes to the following:

  • Do you hold at least a Bachelor's degree and have at least three years experience in an After-school Youth Coordination or Director's position?
  • Do you possess a (DOH) SACC license, or a current degree that includes elementary education, or are you in this field of study. Have you worked as a site supervisor in a Licensed After-School Program?
  • Do you have skills supervising staff and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a youth development or other program?
  • Are you available for a full-time position - Monday through Friday?

We are located in Park Slope Brooklyn. Our 24 year old program provides inner-city youth instruction in performing arts, athletics, academic support, tutoring, community service, leadership, social and emotional learning and other developmental areas. We are fully licensed by the State of NY and insured. The program is supported by the Dept. of Ed and the Dept. of Youth.

Position Overview:

  • Oversee and support aspects of the after-school program and manage daily operations, staff, and compliances
  • Support the supervision of the curriculum, its themes, activity plans, staff coaching and implementation
  • Work with the Assistant Director, and the Executive Director to meet compliances and matters related to the program or the funder
  • Collaborate with the school’s Principal, administration, teachers, secretaries, and custodial staff to assure harmony, and children's safety at all times
  • Maintain accurate records of all staff and oversee staff input of up-to-date attendance data and participate in Annual Workscope or other as required
  • Oversee the organized program schedules, lesson plan collection, snack and space reservations, trips, supply requests, and programmatic needs (this is supported by the administrative staff)
  • Oversee the management of program operations in compliance with all DOH and funder regulations
  • Interview potential employees, review their clearances for upper management approval and assure the entry into city databases
  • Support and oversee the maintenance of attendance records for staff, and student files, incident and accident reports
  • Interact with families, parents, and ensure the needs of students are met
  • Assure the care of inventory, approve new inventory and petty cash
  • Report directly to the Exec. Director
  • Perform other duties and tasks as deemed necessary

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • High level of reliability and able to present yourself as mature and professional
  • Hold a Former SACC license or childhood educational credits with at least a BA
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in a leadership and supervisory capacity
  • Must have good staff and student management skills, able to support classroom instructors and lead amicably but effectively
  • Able to pass background checks and work full time and limited holidays
  • Possess very good skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications with excellent administrative, organizational and record keeping skills
  • Be a creative critical thinker, detail oriented, punctual and well organized
  • Able to take directions, lead or follow as required with patience
  • Be a good mediator and decision-maker
