Director of Automotive Semiconductor R&D Center 
 
What you’ll do 
 
Imec is looking for an experienced Director to lead a new Automotive Semiconductor R&D center being established in partnership with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the partnership at the center, including: setting up collaborative R&D programs, running the research and business operations, managing stakeholder relationships, achieving the local and corporate KPIs, and securing and managing funding. The ideal candidate will support the automotive market segment by leveraging their startup mentality and strong track record of success in leading multi-functional teams and complex technical programs in the semiconductor or microelectronics industries. Responsibilities
 
Stand up and lead the day-to-day operations and project execution of the center in coordination and close communication with internal and external stakeholders in the U.S. and Belgium. 
Execute strategic plans in line with imec’s corporate strategy and leveraging imec’s international skill base for the center’s immediate programs aligned to broader offerings in automotive and semiconductor technology. 
Manage to agreed-upon program budgets and work closely with internal operations teams in the U.S. and Belgium. 
Build, lead, and continuously develop an effective, high-performing team. 
Foster an environment of creative thinking and innovation to be deployed against the industry's most pressing challenges. 
Coordinate closely and regularly with imec technical and business leadership in the U.S. and Belgium. 
Manage a diverse set of local, state, federal, academic, industry, and international stakeholders diplomatically, including, but not limited to: technical subject matter experts, university faculty and staff, executive leadership, government officials, etc. 
Work closely with university faculty and staff to develop and implement a robust workforce development training program. 
Travel occasionally to meet with customers, suppliers, partners, imec colleagues, and other stakeholders both domestically and internationally. 
 
Requirements:
 
A master’s degree or higher in engineering or equivalent experience. 
10 years of technical expertise in a semiconductor manufacturing or R&D environment, with ability to dive deep technically as needed. Experience in the automotive industry is a plus. 
10 years of experience in a senior leadership role within the semiconductor or microelectronics industry with demonstrated general management skills. 
Technical knowledge of chip fabrication techniques and broader applications. 
Up-to-date on the latest industry and technology developments. 
A rich network of industry, academia, state, local, and federal leaders. 
Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken); customer-oriented and diplomatic. 
A passion for building and managing high-functioning teams.
