Job DescriptionIMMI is seeking a highly motivated Seat Trim Engineer to join its Westfield team. The Seat Trim Engineer will execute Seat Trim development primarily in-house & in some cases with supplier per Project scope. The candidate will Prepare and monitor timeline for trim development activities, execute & release trim designs into production using standard release process. Educational Qualifications: 4-year college degree in job related field (e.g., textiles, clothing, Fashion Design, technology course etc.) or other suitable technical degree preferred with focus on Seat Trim (soft goods) Development or 2-year degree with applicable work experience in a related field & 8-10 years job related experience in lieu of undergraduate degree. Experience: No of Years: 8 years minimum Technical Skill Requirements:
2D Pattern Development capability in Optitex and/or Accumark 2D CAD. Able to create and modify complex patterns with little to no direction to achieve required Craftsmanship targets
Seat Cover Construction: Strong working knowledge of soft trim cover construction process
Knowledge in Pattern development for class-A surface, various trim attachment concepts
Strong working knowledge of Seat Cover/Trim Assembly & Manufacturing requirements
Strong working knowledge of Seat Cover/Trim Material specifications and guidelines
Hands on sewing experience and thorough understanding of seam and stitch types for seats
Knowledge of Standard Components used within seat covers
Demonstrated ability to understand and apply one or more basic problem-solving techniques (e.g., BEP, Kepner-Tregoe, Six-Sigma, etc.) to help solve real-world issues.
Equipment Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of and ability to operate equipment used in trim cover creation (NC Cutter, Sewing Machines etc.) as needed.
Basic knowledge of Soft Trim Cover safety related components and performance requirements
Basic knowledge of Soft Trim design standards and lean towards documentation & standardization practices
Soft Trim Development - Fabric, Vinyl and Leather
Familiarity of JIT Manufacturing requirements; ability to Create/Reference DFA/M guidelines.
Other Skills:
Understanding of Trim process: Cut and Sew, trim operations, production level cover development.
Experience in coordinating with Styling/Supplier/Customer for tone, grain texture of the soft trims
Experience in Fine-tuning for Quality, Consumption Optimization
Product knowledge of automotive/commercial Seating System
Experience in Digital Trim Development software would be preferred
Working Experience in CAD system would be an added advantage
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with customers, suppliers and cross functional teams
Job Responsibilities:
Execute Seat Trim development primarily in-house & in some cases with supplier per Project scope
Prepare and monitor timeline for trim development activities
Execute & release trim designs into production using standard release process
Participate/arrange Seat Build events (internal/customer/supplier) for Craftsmanship approvals
Apply principles of 2D pattern design, using either manual (physical) patterns with digitizer and/or digital (Optitex/Accumark/Solidworks) using CAD tools as appropriate
Designs trim covers to meet cost targets and/or identifies issues and opportunities using the design for cost methods
Releases final product data into EPDM and ERP
Approve master patterns to/from supplier
Leads/supports Complete Seat Build Events
Digitizes patterns into Optitex electronic CAD patterning systems if/when needed
Cut and Sew and/or provide cutting/sewing support to the sew cell for development and prototype covers
Build/assemble development seats to verify trim designs, understanding and using production build methods
Maintains an organized and safe storage and work environment.
Assists in costing and quoting activities by compiling the proper information for submittal.
