Role Overview: The Controller plays a critical role, overseeing all aspects of financial, accounting, and tax reporting. This includes fixed asset management, internal financial controls, managing restricted funds, and ensuring compliance with laws pertaining to non-profit entities. As a key leader, the Controller supervises a team of four, ensuring efficient accounting processes across the organization, while closely collaborating with various departments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Preparing and reviewing financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. * Leading coordination with independent auditors for annual audits, including single audits for federal and state grants. * Supervising the accounting team and overseeing general and grant accounting functions. * Preparing financial reports for federal and state grants and ensuring compliance. * Processing data for annual federal 990, 990-T, and related state tax filings. * Maintaining an organized accounting system and implementing policies and procedures. * Ensuring timely and accurate processing of all accounting transactions. * Managing cash disbursements and overseeing bank relations and debt levels. * Assisting in budget creation and monitoring. * Maintaining the fixed asset system and overseeing capital project accounting. * Serving on institutional committees for process improvements and strategic initiatives. * Managing governmental online systems like G-5, SAM, Federal Clearinghouse, etc.
Qualifications: * A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business, with a Master's Degree preferred. * CPA certification is a plus. * Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience, with at least five years in higher education or public accounting.
Skills: * Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders. * High levels of integrity and professionalism. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), web browsers, and standard office equipment. * Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.
