Independence Health System, Inc. is Hiring an EMPLOYEE HEALTH MEDICAL ASSISTANT Near Butler, PA

Job Summary

The position works within the employee health setting to assist nurse coordinators with ill and injured workers to reach maximum health and return to productive employment. Follows compliance and regulatory agencies and follows CDC guidelines for Healthcare Workers. Maintains a safe employee work environment through surveillance, screening, testing, vaccination, and educational programs. Participates in the Nurse on Call program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Completes patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
  • Complies with completeness, accuracy and timeliness of documentation within the EMR and other documents
  • Communicates pertinent information of actual or potential problems to the Employee Health Coordinator
  • Assists the Employee Health Coordinator with treatments and procedures as requested.
  • Answers telephone calls, taking accurate messages and relaying them to the appropriate staff
  • Completes additional clerical duties as assigned
  • Utilizes patient identification before implementing any form of patient care Labels all patient specimens with identifiers per policy.
  • Uses patient identifiers on all forms of written documentation, including notes and point of care testing results.
  • Assists Registered Nurses in the completion of physicals.
  • Completes drug screenings by collecting hair and urine samples.
  • Adheres to infection control process, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development.
  • Demonstrates an ability to solve problems independently and seeks assistance from immediate when appropriate
  • Maintains accountability for own actions.
  • Assists in organizational compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Assists in continuous survey readiness or inspections and surveys by collecting data as directed by Manager or nurse
  • Performs all quality control, monitoring functions and reports out of range information immediately to supervisor.
  • Facilitates interpersonal communication on a routine basis.
  • Interacts with external customers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Interacts with co-workers and internal customers in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Responsible for invoice tracking and submission to finance.
  • Maintains vaccine cards and scanning all employee health records to EMR.
  • Assists in vaccinating employees for immunizations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
  • Certified Medical Assistant Certification
  • Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years)
  • Medical Terminology
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • None preferred

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally among Independence Health locations.
