DescriptionJob SummaryThe Medical Secretary provides clerical support for all interventional radiology, non-invasive cardiology, and invasive cardiology services including Echo, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, EKG, EEG and Pacer Clinic. This may include, but is not limited to answering phones, report processing, typing, posting charges and payroll.
Hours: Monday- Friday 6:30am-3:00pm and optional Saturdays.Essential Job Functions
  • Obtain and document complete and accurate information.
  • Ensure messages reach the appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and financial information.
  • Enter all information into the billing system per established policies and procedures.
  • Enter all charges/codes into billing system accurately (where applicable by office).
  • Complete forms and prepare letters necessary for continuing patient care.
  • Make every effort to collect payments at the time of visit.
  • Accurately complete cash sheets.
  • Deliver cash and cash sheets daily to appropriate place.
  • Assist in maintaining/decreasing organizational/departmental costs.
  • Schedule patients for appropriate intervals and provider based on protocols.
  • Assist patients to access specialty care and testing per physician order (as directed by facility).
  • Provide instructions and directions based on protocols and physician order.
  • Maintain accountability for actions taken.
  • Act as a patient advocate.
  • Perform effectively in the role of preceptor/mentor to new hires and/or students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve problems and seek assistance from immediate supervisor when needed.
  • Process telephone calls and messages for Interventional Radiology, Echo, Nuclear Cardiology, EKG, EEG and Pacer Clinic promptly, courteously, and efficiently.
  • Accurately and efficiently compile and distribute reports and post charges.
  • Work collaboratively with scheduling, registration and billing in all matters pertaining to patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Higher Level of Education
  • Knowledge of basic Office Equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Healthcare setting.
License, Certification & Clearances
  • No licenses or certifications required.
  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
  • Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health System locations.
