Independence Rising is an Independent Living Center that has been in service for over 35 years. Independence Rising is a non-profit and serves individuals with a variety of self-disclosed disabling conditions. Independence Rising currently provides services across the lifespan free of charge and fee-for-service. Independence Rising provides services across the state of Nebraska and currently has over 7 locations.

At Independence Rising, we believe everyone deserves to live their own life. We dedicate our time and resources to everyone we serve. Independence Rising is currently seeking a Peer Support/Independent Living Specialist.

The ideal candidate would be in the Scottsbluff/Panhandle area, have a passion for working with a vulnerable population, be comfortable collaborating with other professionals on self-defined goals, draw from lived experience in recovery from substance abuse or mental illness to assist in the recovery of others.

• This position requires State Certification as a Peer Specialist!

• Ability to assist clients with self-identified goals.

• Assist in self-managing personal crises.

• Provide documentation updates for team and supervisors.

• Attending team meetings and training.

• Give presentations and marketing events.

This position is a hybrid position. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with working in an office and working from home. The ideal candidate must also be comfortable with travel.

Qualifications:

• High-school diploma/GED required. Post-secondary education preferred.

• Self-identified as a current or former recipient of professional behavioral health services which has led toward recovery from a major mental illness and/or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder.

• Successful completion of an agency recognized peer specialist training program.

• State certification as peer specialist is REQUIRED.

• Knowledge of recovery principles, coping skills, advocacy techniques and community resources.

• Access to reliable transportation, possession of valid Nebraska driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and good driving record.

Pay: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
