District 196 has 19 elementary schools (grades K-5); six middle schools (grades 6-8); four high schools (grades 9-12); an optional School of Environmental Studies for juniors and seniors; an Area Learning Center high school program; a K-12 special education school, and a special education program serving young adults ages 18-2.2 The district also operates three learning centers that provide early childhood and Adult Basic Education services, and offers extensive community education programs and classes for learners of all ages.
Thomas Lake Elementary School is a school of approximately 560 students in the suburban area of Eagan. The mission of Thomas Lake Elementary School, and our other elementary schools, is to nurture the development of responsible citizens in an increasingly interdependent and diverse society. Thomas Lake Elementary School offers an interdisciplinary approach to a rigorous core curriculum. Students engage in innovative and challenging instruction designed to enhance children’s natural curiosity and their critical and creative thinking. Teachers empower students to inquire, express and discover their unique abilities through a variety of experiences. Thomas Lake's reputation as a welcoming, safe environment is known throughout the community. The staff has established strong, positive partnerships with parents and community members
Responsibilities: The principal reports to the director of elementary education and is responsible for overall direction and administration of Thomas Lake Elementary School facilities, resources and instructional programs. This includes selection, supervision, development and evaluation of licensed and support staff, budgets, capital expenditures, building policies and procedures, schedules and public relations. The principal is also responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment in the school.
Qualifications: A successful candidate will have or be able to obtain a valid Minnesota administrative license, will have successful classroom teaching experience and will demonstrate prior significant leadership of elementary education programs. Demonstrated success is necessary in assessing needs, setting goals and implementing and evaluating an exemplary inclusive academic program for elementary students. Candidates must have outstanding organizational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills in working with students, staff and the public and has demonstrated proficiency in working with a diverse school community preferred.
Compensation will include a salary in the range of $140,536 – 150,378 (based on 2023-24 school year) depending upon qualifications, plus an excellent benefits program.
