A team of experienced and dedicated staff members including nurses, midwives, family medicine physicians, obstetricians, high-risk obstetricians. A full range of labor support services to meet the individual patient needs that includes birthing ball, bed, walking and fetal monitoring, Hydrotherapy for comfort and non-medicinal pain control. •Support for breastfeeding and bonding with immediate skin to skin contact with mother and baby. •24-hour anesthesia consults for pain control •Support for family-centered delivery •Immediate access to Level II nursery •5 labor-delivery rooms •On unit surgery suite for Cesarean-sections •Blood bank in the facility •Dedicated ultrasound room for fetal and maternal diagnosis •Midwife on unit 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. •Lactation consultant on staff to assist with breastfeeding techniques and support. The Obstetric Clinical Nurse performs a variety of nursing care procedures requiring professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments, and ability to work independently in completing assignments. Assists physicians and midwives during examinations and procedures. Provides comprehensive, family centered nursing care to mothers and babies during antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods. Guidelines include physician's orders, standards of care, nursing policies and procedures manuals, hospital policies. Nursing duties include support to individuals of all ages and their families. Duties: 1. Develops individualized patient care plans and periodic evaluation of plans to ensure that intended results are being achieved. 2. Interviews patients and family members and consults with attending physicians, CNM, other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed. 3. Carries out treatments and procedures per scope of practice. 4. When assigned as team leader, provides guidance, direction and training to ancillary nursing and other personnel. 5. Maintains health records by documenting observations, nursing interventions and therapeutic measures administered in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. 6. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in nursing through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on nursing committees. 7. Provides counseling and teaching to patients and families or surrogates on preventative, curative and rehabilitative measures involved in health care. 8. Knowledge of normal growth, development and life cycle changes. This also includes knowledge of the physical, psychosocial and behavioral characteristics of the group for which care is provided. 9. Knowledge of assessment practices related to pain management and various treatment modalities of pain relief. 10. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals in order to organize the desired effects, side effects and complications on their use. 11. Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role. 12. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. 13. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates) 14. Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction. 15. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing License/Certification: • Must have a valid, current, full and unrestricted Professional Nursing License to practice nursing in any state of the United States of America, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States • Must maintain a current valid certification of the following throughout employment: o Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association o If not already certified, the following must be obtained within six (6) months of hire o Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, required within six (6) months of hire o Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within six (6) months of hire o AWHONN Intermediate EFM Certification Experience: A minimum of at least one (1) year of OB nursing experience in antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and nursery. Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: • Positive working relationships with others • Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints • Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences • Knowledge of normal growth, development and life cycle changes.
