Indiana Department of Health is Hiring a Breastfeeding Strategies Coordinator Near Indianapolis, IN

Job Description: This contract position will have the opportunity to collaborate with both internal and external partners to support the Statewide Breastfeeding Initiatives Manager with implementation of the Indiana State Breastfeeding Plan. This position will be part of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (DNPA) and will be supported through split-funding from the DNPA and the Division of Maternal and Child Health. The coordinator will support facilitation of collective impact work with regional and local childcare entities, workplaces, organizations, schools, hospitals, provider offices, coalitions, and other partners. Specifically, the incumbent will design and oversee a project implementation strategy, including collaborative development of a 5-year workplan, budget, and evaluation plan.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Project management for the implementation of the 2024-2028 Indiana Breastfeeding Plan.
  • Creation and implementation of breastfeeding-friendly designations for physician offices and Early Care and Education (ECE) providers.
  • Assist the Statewide Breastfeeding Initiatives Manager with the creation of a statewide breastfeeding collective to ensure robust buy-in and participation from key stakeholders in the implementation of the Indiana Breastfeeding Plan.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the Indiana Breastfeeding Conference.
  • Assist with development and dissemination of breastfeeding resources to regional and local stakeholders through regular communication, education opportunities, and relevant website updates.
  • Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to keep internal and external partners informed about the implementation of the Indiana Breastfeeding Plan and educational opportunities for the lactation workforce.
  • Assist with implementation of strategies to address and eliminate racial health disparities in breastfeeding rates.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nursing, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience managing complex projects, budgets, and workplans is required.
  • Current professional degree licensure (if applicable).
  • Certification such as IBCLC, CBS, CLE, CLS, or CLC is strongly preferred.
  • Dual language (English and Spanish) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver information to diverse audiences.
  • Some in-state travel as needed.

Relevant Information:

  • This is a hybrid position that will require the candidate to report to the IDOH office in downtown Indianapolis 3 days per week, with the option of working remotely 2 days per week.
  • Laptop and reimbursement for job-related travel provided.
  • This is a contract position with a starting salary of $52,000- $55,000. Benefits are available through employment services provider (Computer Aid Inc.)
