Indiana Public Schools is Hiring a Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) Near Merrillville, IN

Schedule: 7 hours, 8:15am-3:15pm, School year position

Classification: Category III, Class A, $19.00-$22.00/hour

Reports to: Lead Speech Language Pathologist & Exec. Director of Special Education

Job Summary:

The job of Speech/Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) was established for the purpose/s of assisting speech/language pathology staff in providing speech/language therapy services for students with communication disorders (i.e., delays in pragmatic semantics, syntax, fluency, articulation/phonology).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Coordinates meetings on behalf of Speech and Language Pathologist with a variety of individuals as directed (e.g., parents, teachers, physicians, administration, other professionals) for the purpose of communicating information and/or resolving issues in compliance with established guidelines.

* Follows established treatment plans for the purpose of facilitating students' progress on communication/educational goals.

* Instruct students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g., hearing aids, augmentative communication devices) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders and improving student success in the classroom.

* Maintains files and/or records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, required documentation, reports, assessment results) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.

* Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training, team meetings) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.

* Prepares, under direction of Speech and Language Pathologist, a wide variety of written materials (e.g.,activity logs, correspondence, memos) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

* Assist with Billing Medicaid

* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned which are necessary for the daily operation of the school program.

Qualifications & Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree or certification in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program from an accredited institution.

* Knowledge of speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders, as well as therapeutic techniques and interventions.

* Familiarity with standardized assessment tools and procedures commonly used in speech-language pathology.

* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
