Position Details Title Student Services Librarian Appointment Status Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Law Library Location Bloomington Position Summary The Jerome Hall Law Library serves the 650 students and more than 60 faculty members of the IU Maurer School of Law, the students and faculty of the larger Bloomington campus, and the public.

It is a strikingly beautiful library with an extensive collection. It is also part of the network of IU libraries, giving users ready access to millions of items.

IU Bloomington is frequently cited as one of the prettiest campuses in the U.S., and Bloomington itself is a vibrant, much-loved college town nestled in the hills of southern Indiana.

The Jerome Hall Law Library is committed to promoting respect for human diversity and support the mission of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.

Position Summary :

  • The Jerome Hall Law Library is seeking applicants for the position of Student Services Librarian. This position is responsible for developing and implementing innovative student-facing library programs;
  • developing non-course-affiliated research instruction; training students involved in moot court, the law journals, and other law school programs;

and participating in all general duties of the reference / teaching team of librarians. This position reports to the Associate Director for Public Services and provides lots of room for creativity and innovation.

Responsibilities

1. Develop, implement, and evaluate services and experiences for law students to enhance their legal research knowledge and experience of the law library.

2. Teach Advanced Legal Research (2 credit survey course) and / or Advanced Legal Research : Special Topics (1 credit focused topical course).

5. Provide support to student-run law journals in use of library resources.6. Participate in additional teaching responsibilities of the reference librarians.

7. Design and implement assessments of student satisfaction with the library and solicit suggestions for improvements in services.

8. Participate in other duties of the public services team, including instructional library tours and orientations.9. Participate in library administrative staff meetings, Public Services team meetings, and other meetings as necessary.

10. Undertake professional development (publishing, presenting, continued learning) and service as required for tenure and promotion.

11. Other duties as needed. Librarians perform many unenumerated tasks in the furtherance of the Law Library mission.

Basic Qualifications 1. MLS from an ALA-accredited library school2. JD from an ABA-accredited law school3. Coursework or some experience in legal research, preferred4.

Demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of research materials in all formats6. Strong service attitude and ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment7.
