New Graduates

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.

IU Health University Hospital’s Surgical Progressive Care Unit (SPCU) is a 34-bed high-acuity unit that serves a diverse population of surgical oncology patients. We specialize in ENT/head & neck, Thoracic, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, Urology, Colorectal and Plastic surgery. We offer a fast-paced, encouraging learning environment where we embrace teamwork and collaboration with all disciplines of the patient’s care team. SPCU care requires high attention to detail, a strong emphasis on quality and a foundation in evidence-based practice.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

  • Insertion of small-bore feeding tubes and bowel management devices
  • Hemodynamic monitoring

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
