Indiana University Health is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented leader to join our nurse leadership team as the Vice President - Chief Nursing Officer, West Central Region.

The Vice President - Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), West Central Region will be a transformational leader that sets and promotes the mission, vision, and values of IU Health and advances contemporary nursing practice. The Chief Nursing Officer will create a productive environment and ensure the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable, and patient centered care. The CNO must articulate and embody the IU Health Way and lead through the IU Health Values of Team, Purpose, Compassion, and Excellence. This leader ensures and fosters a high level of collaboration within a highly matrixed team environment in the development, implementation, and maintenance of nursing strategic and operational priorities. The CNO ensures leader development at all levels of the organization and cares deeply about the nursing profession and the people who turn to IU Health for their care. The Chief Nursing Officer creates environments where team members are personally valued, professionally invested, and inspired by our patients and colleagues. They are accountable for achievement of organizational outcomes on the IU Health Promise Dashboard; quality and safety improvements, care affordability, great patient experiences, and great team member experiences. They will lead the ongoing cultivation of evidenced-based decision making in clinical and leadership initiatives, shared –leadership structures, professional practice models, and continual process improvement while creating a learning environment through the implementation of evidence based practice, clinical inquiry, dissemination of evidence through publication and presentation, and partnership with associated schools of nursing. The CNO maintains a working knowledge of current clinical practice, regulatory and accreditation requirements and possesses current knowledge of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet and/or Pathway to Excellence Programs and designation criteria. This leader demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of healthcare economics and policy as well as the role of the governing bodies at the local, regional, and system level. The Chief Nursing Officer maintains productive working relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external to the organization and is involved professionally in regional and national activities through professional organizations, modeling and encouraging involvement.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be selected from a diverse pool and will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Master's degree (Nursing, Health Administration or related field) required.
  • If master’s degree is not in nursing, a BSN is required.
  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience preferred.
  • Certification in administration preferred.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of the nursing profession.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

Personal Characteristics and Capabilities

  • Desire to lead through the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency guidelines and laws.
  • Experience leading in an ANCC designated entity preferred (Magnet or Pathway to Excellence).
  • Experience designing organizational structures to achieve business and operational results.
  • Possesses the highest personal integrity and ethics.
