We are currently seeking a Nurse Navigator to join our collaborative Hematology/Oncology team. This position is a Part-Time position that works Wednesday-Friday, no call, no weekends or holidays! Guided by the IU Health values - Compassion, Team, Excellence, and Purpose - the Nurse Navigator will partner with our medical oncology team to coordinate and manage the care needs of assigned patients and develop comprehensive individualized care plans. The navigator will collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate tests and treatments are delivered in a timely fashion and cost-effective manner. As the primary point of contact for the patient and medical team, strong communication and organizational skills are required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing patient care across the continuum of care, assisting provider and team members with patients in outpatient clinic setting, assisting with outpatient procedures including collection of labs, assisting with medication management and administration, assisting with prior authorization for medications and procedures, providing continuing patient education throughout care continuum, prepping charts for new patient visits. Data collection, order entry, assisting team members with covering tasks on high volume days, attending and participating in unit and house wide committees for process improvements, daily huddles, and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN).
  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. 3-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Specialty certifications may be required per unit/department specialty in accordance with the department provision of care.
  • Requires knowledge of personal computers using various types of word processing and database software.
  • Requires clinical work experience, medical terminology.
  • Requires understanding of medical record requirements, regulations and policies.
