New Graduates

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.

The Emergency Department is an area that encompasses many different situations. Nurses treat patients with compassion, care, and clinical excellence as you will provide care for patients in emergent situations. On this 36-care space unit, ED nurses primarily care for STEMI, chest/abdominal pain, cardiac arrest, heart failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, and an extensive list of other diagnoses.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

* Emergency response

* Triage training

* Training for Rapid Transfusion, Critical Care stabilization

* Assist with bedside procedures such as: central line placement, cardioversion, and intubation, ART lines

* Fostering support for patients and family in emergent situations

Unit Successes/Designations:

* 1 RN with CEN certification, 3 RNs with Medical/Surgical Certification

* Multiple DAISY Award nominees in 2023

* 2 IU Health Great Catch Awards in 2023

* Multiple Capstone Preceptors for nursing students

Unit culture:

* Fosters an environment for learning

* Support from fellow team members, as well as a dedicated leadership team

* Unit Professional Governance with staff input into shared decision making

Qualifications

* Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

* Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

* Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

* Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

* Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
