TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

The Assistant Athletic Director will work directly with the Athletic Director to provide quality athletic programming opportunities for all of the enrolled students. The Assistant Athletic Director will play a critical role in several aspects of the school’s athletic programming, assisting with each sport that is offered. This position will also serve as the primary contact for the department when the Athletic Director is not available. The Assistant Athletic Director must uphold the highest moral and ethical standards as they will be representing their school and the Indianapolis Public Schools district.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with scheduling and contract management for sports programs and athletic events.
  • Scheduling and confirming team transportation.
  • Scheduling of officials for athletic events as needed.
  • Attending home and/or away contests as needed.
  • Managing home athletic contests in conjunction with the athletic department staff, including announcers, scorekeepers, clock operators, concessions, gate, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with the academic development of student athletes, including overseeing and managing study tables, and developing academic reports for the district, etc.
  • Developing and maintaining the athletic website and social media profiles.
  • Maintaining inventory of athletics equipment and supplies.
  • Assisting with facilitating school’s athletics meetings.
  • Attending meetings with Athletic Director or as proxy as needed.
  • Assisting with maintaining eligibility records for student athletes.
  • Assisting with maintaining records of physicals for student athletes.
  • Developing communications and/or correspondence to internal and external parties
  • Developing media, including photos, videos, flyers, game programs, etc.
  • Assisting the Athletic Director in the coordination, supervision and evaluation of all athletic feeder programs.
  • Executing any other duties or assignments as directed by the Athletic Director.

“Day In the Life” Overview


On a regular day, as the Assistant Athletic Director, you might:

  • Confirm all officials for home contests and buses for road contests that day/week.
  • Manage study tables, having conversations with student athletes about their class work and connecting them with the proper tutors and/or resources.
  • Submit team rosters into the IHSAA portal and to the district athletic department.
  • Cover lunch duty and chat with prospective students about the benefits of participating on a sports team and representing their school.
  • Sending out congratulatory and gameday posts on social media to recognize your excelling student athletes and promote your upcoming contests.
  • Set up before a home game and tear down afterwards.

  • Finance - Experience with fund raising is preferred.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or four years of experience as an athletic administrator.
  • Will be required to work towards Athletic Administrator certifications upon hire if not already attained.
  • Knowledgeable of IHSAA policies and procedures.
