Position Title: Vehicle Maintenance Manager

Department:  Preventative Maintenance and Repair

Division: Operations

*The salary range is $75,000 - $78,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager of Vehicle Maintenance is responsible for leading the team of Vehicle Maintenance Supervisors and Mechanics to ensure rolling stock is available for service while controlling department workflow. This position also ensures that labor is assigned in accordance with the negotiated labor contract between IndyGo and its labor union and that total expenditures do not exceed the budget.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform in a satisfactory manner the functions listed below. The company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. 

  • Track and update the vehicle management system and monitor the documentation and records of the vehicles, especially areas related to the inspections, certifications, and servicing.
  • Devise fleet management strategies for the company and ensure timely execution.
  • Ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the fleet management system in place and make changes to improve the same.
  • Monitor and update the records of fleet maintenance tracking software systems.
  • Adhere to national, regional, and company-wide rules and regulations while performing fleet management operations.
  • Oversee the repairs and maintenance of the vehicles by planning a sound vehicle management system. 
  • Available to work all shifts as needed
  • Monitor the compliance, quality control and assurance standards for all areas of fleet management.
  • Manage the mechanics and supervisors and their job roles and ensure that they stick to the rules and regulations set in place by the company.
  • Implement, maintain, update and enforce company policy and procedures.
  • Conduct and coordinate meetings with interdepartmental management to strategize plans and goals for the benefit of the corporation.
  • Meet with vendors to ensure the department has up to date tools and technology.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience. 

  • Degree or diploma in logistics, supply-chain management, Auto Mechanic, or a similar discipline preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior experience in vehicle maintenance operations and parts supply chain systems
  •  A minimum of 3 years of prior experience working as a fleet/maintenance manager, logistics manager or in a similar job role. 
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively and adapt to changes in workload.

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those an individual must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The company will provide reasonable accommodation to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. 

  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment. 
  • Ability to work independently with work checked regularly. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and scaffolds to work on top of and beneath vehicles. 
  • Ability to raise and lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs. overhead or up a level to another regularly during shift. 
  • Requires exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust. 
Must be able to pass all post-offer physical testing and be able to complete all physical job functions as defined in the Functional Job Description.
