Information Technology Group is Hiring a Data Center Facilities Manager Near Bellevue, WA

This is NOT an engineering positoin, but a FACILITIES position!!

Technology Requirements: At an enterprise scale CRITICAL facility: OPERATIONS and CONSTRUCTION/PLANNING from building to end device/user:

  • AC and DC power, UPS, Generators, rectifiers, low to medium voltage supporting continuous availability.
  • Various high performance high density cooling systems supporting critical and people spaces.
  • Building envelope/property management.
  • Fire systems (pre-action, gaseous, VESDA).
  • Building management systems (BMS).
  • Security camera/badge systems.
  • Project Management with A/E, vendors, contractors, employees from large scale consulting to individual product/user.

THIS IS A LAB, so being able to conceptualize with users to solve facility related challenges in a development environment with a constant demand for innovation and collaboration for sustainable solutions.

What does a typical day look like? (daily tasks) Core Hours: M-F 8-5.

Site walks. Review and QA ongoing tickets (Maintenance, break/fix, projects) to ensure vendor and customer needs are met. Direct and manage vendors. Vigilant safety awareness. Address issues found or reported to the solution. Construction and project meetings initiating, contributing and collaborating on solutions as a service and/or customer. On call rotation off hours for emergencies affecting the facility. Operation of the facility infrastructure in collaboration with vendors. Reports as requested for routine, periodic and dynamic need. Budgetary awareness dynamically applied to costs. At least 10-20% time devoted to moving the bar forward.

Preferred background/prior work experience? 3-7 years in direct experience operating, designing, constructing, maintaining and managing large scale production data centers/critical facilities at the enterprise level with understanding and leadership in engineering in the disciplines needed to sustain continuous availability.

Priority soft skills Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and dynamic customer demands while balancing facility risk. Can be challenging particularly at the LAB as opposed to a traditional stable hardened critical facility. Ability to communicate at all levels of leadership and engineering customers to navigate understanding at each level.

The Sr. Critical Facility Engineer is accountable for operational, technical, and strategic oversight of the critical infrastructure and maintenance operations. Critical portfolio includes Data Centers, Mobile Switching Centers, Call Centers, Distributed Antenna System, Point-of-Presence, Fiber Regeneration facilities. Primary responsibilities include oversight of each critical facility's electrical, mechanical, life safety and critical back-up systems. Interact with support teams (CFE&I, Compliance, Legal, Procurement, client Network Operations) both internal and external and with local contractors and vendors. Maximum emphasis is to be placed on the critical environment operational continuity while ensuring the integrity and reliability of the critical function is not compromised. Focus on KPI goals and objectives and maintain a strategic view in managing operations for the infrastructure. Ability to write and train technical documentation.

Ability to write and train processes. Strong skills in vendor relationship management and communication, critical engineering practices, organizational savvy, people management and team leadership, and the ability to identify and manage variation in metrics.

Essential Functions

  • Manages the operational execution of all processes and procedures for critical facilities, including work process and authorization, incident management, and routine operations & maintenance process and procedures to maintain 100% uptime. Areas include: electrical, mechanical, building monitoring and control.
  • Reviews, understands, and evaluates the engineering design and operational performance and aspects of critical facilities systems and equipment. Must be able to immediately recognize system shortcomings and respond to operational and emergency situations.
  • Provides training, support, and guidance to expand team s capabilities and ensure technical staff is performing work appropriately and is trained on compliance, life/safety programs, and critical environment process and procedures.
  • Works with teams to ensure that all proper closeout and commissioning procedures are followed including the collection, distribution, and storage of documentation.
  • Participates in critical facility annual planning activities including, reviewing, remodeling, new system construction, facility infrastructure upgrades.
  • Use CMMS tool to track all work progress and completion; including review of PM reports and recommended repairs.
  • Provides input to annual financial plans for operating expense and capital, and support account by identifying unforeseen emergency expenditures throughout the year.
  • Performs site inspections and tours documenting deficiencies and recommendations for improvements or upgrades. Maintains accurate asset accounting of infrastructure equipment.
  • Ability to write and train technical documentation. Ability to write and train processes.
  • Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 4-7 years Experience in mechanical/HVAC, electrical, or a combination of the two.
  • 4-7 years Experience in data center facilities operations, working with equipment mentioned above, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • 4-7 years Experience managing vendor work and quality control.

Education:

Bachelor s degree Engineering, facilities, or related discipline or equivalent experience preferred.

General/Physical Requirements:

This position requires mobility (standing, walking, climbing, etc.); the ability to get from one place to another. This position requires sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching, grasping, fine manipulation, keyboarding. Ability to push/pull and lift/carry 25 lbs. Requires ability to work in an environment that has frequent exposure to noise,

Must have heavy industrial/DataCenter specific experience in building, power, cooling, security and fire prevention operations and construction in complex facilities role(s). The Bellevue LAB is an extremely complex and multi-faceted facility with dynamic customer expectations. Ongoing construction/expansion along with infrastructure replacement projects.
