About the position:

We are seeking a senior and seasoned Corporate Sector Coverage (CSC) banker with well-established client relationships in at least some of the industry verticals that the team covers. This banker will be a self-starter and work closely with existing team members and with other product and sector teams within the organization.

The role requires an experienced banker who can work with little or no supervision. We are responsible for sector client coverage, leading debt financings for our clients which can often be structured and complex and coordinating all cross-sell efforts on other products. Prior Corporate Sector Coverage experience, a good credit grounding, and a strong knowledge of a variety of wholesale banking products is essential. ING’s product suite includes Global Liquidity Management and Cash Management, Working Capital Solutions, Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Derivatives and various lending Products. Given the seniority of the role, the individual will be expected to have the capability, experience, and gravitas to engage at the C-suite level with clients, be the deal team leader on transactions as required, coordinate with other stakeholders, and contribute effectively to the growth strategy for the sector / region. The Director will be expected to do a significant level of Prospecting to contribute to the Team’s and ING Americas growth Ambitions.

About the department:

The US CSC team is focused on managing and expanding the global relationship with multi-national US corporate clients and prospects, offering the complete suite of ING corporate banking and treasury products across our international network – with a natural focus on Europe. Our US corporate clients are typically large American stock listed companies, with a revenue base of at least USD 2bn, a considerable footprint in Europe (revenues of over €500m), and with a credit profile of BB/Ba or better.

We cover US Multinationals in different subsectors of the economy to include Diversified Manufacturing, Chemicals, Consumer Products, Packaging, Food & Agri, Professional Services, Apparel and Retail and Other. The US CSC team is measured on a global income basis and does not target international (foreign Headquartered) corporate clients. The US CSC team is pursuing a strategy to increase and broaden the income generation from existing ‘development’ clients, as well as from attractive prospects meeting the aforementioned criteria. The US CSC Team is based in New York and consists of 14 Front Office professionals.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to formulate client strategy and develop / manage client and / or sponsor relationships across different Industry Verticals. They will be working with other team members, including product specialists, country coverage bankers and other stakeholders to help with the origination of new business with clients, ongoing client relationship management, leading new deals including financings and monitoring / maintaining existing portfolio and especially prospecting new clients. The work envisaged encompasses leading origination efforts, assisting with deal structuring, credit analysis, taking a leadership role and guiding deal team members, leading the internal approval process and legal documentation as required, and coordinating with relevant product teams to deliver multi-product solutions to clients and achieving cross-buy and return objectives.

Identification, development, and maintenance of close relationships with clients as the primary contact. Coordinating the development of presentation material and pitches to clients leading to new mandates.

Helping achieve sector income, fee, cross-buy, ESG and return targets, and achieving other financial / non-financial KPIs.

Providing direction and leadership to deal teams including ensuring efficient allocation of resources and support in execution. Overseeing client marketing and transaction origination & execution, taking a lead role when required.

Ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members, ensuring proactive performance and personal development to instill a strong performance culture and help achieve results.

Market ING’s products in the Americas and across the ING EMEA network and at times in APAC while engaging with ING’s product partners and regional coverage bankers wherever they may be located.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Graduate or post-graduate degree holder in Business / Finance / Economics or other relevant disciplines

Minimum of 15 years of corporate / investment banking experience (or other relevant field)

Possess a significant “rolodex” to gain access to prospect clients that meet the CSC’s team mandate.

Experience in structuring and deal execution in transactions in corporate / investment banking

Sound knowledge of credit, financial models, and loans documentation

Ability to train and develop junior talent

Solid track record in origination and cross-selling other products like financial markets, DCM, M&A advisory and transaction services.

Strong analytical, presentation, leadership, and communication skills.

An effective team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.

High level of self-motivation.

Series SIE, 79 / 63 required or to be obtained shortly after start

Salary Range $250 - $300K
