Shift: Rotating days: 6:00pm – 6:00amWork Schedule: Saturday - Friday; rotating 12-hour shifts.Job SummaryThe Offset Second Press Operator is responsible for assisting with the management of all aspects of the printing press operation by performing manual and automated machine operator tasks during the set-up, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of Inland’s Offset presses. This role has core responsibility for the substrates, inks and chemistries that run on the Offset presses. The Offset Second Press Operator will ensure that presses are set up and supplied properly prior to print production, to ensure press efficiencies are met. In partnership with the Lead Operators, this role ensures that quality and throughput goals are achieved, while also exhibiting a safety-first attitude. This individual must be a team player and will readily float across various operational areas to assist in the overall efficiency of the operations. Successful individuals will possess the drive to continue to grow within the Operations group and will tenaciously pursue skill development opportunities. The Offset Second Press Operator must have the desire to advance within the department and take on roles and responsibilities that scale in ownership.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Reads and understands a job ticket to determine the stock, ink and other materials needed for the production job.
  • Responsible for staging, management throughout the run, and return of all inks, substrates, and chemistries according to job ticket specifications jobs by viewing production schedule and conferring with Lead Operator.
  • Makes minor equipment adjustments and completing basic repairs with the use of hand tools as well as participating in preventative maintenance programs to maintain equipment for optimal production efficiencies.
  • Follows and performs all established quality control procedures in the pressroom and ensures correct and good quality product is coming off the feeder.
  • Assists the Offset Lead Operator with end of run procedures and in the set-up of the next production job.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to Lead Operator for improvements in production and quality.
  • Completes and maintains production records for all materials used including, but not limited to material usage report, SFIS, CMMS and material on hold system.
  • Assists in developing the department’s Standard Operating Procedures
  • Participates in 5S initiatives; performs housekeeping by replacing press rags and solutions, performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, and other tasks when press is down.
  • Obtains weekly inventory and stocks through Kanban replenishment program.
  • Trains and operates Inland Powered Industrial Vehicles. Trains other departmental employees, as needed.
  • Assists with Offset Lead Operator responsibilities and maintains production and quality standards when lead operators are away from press for short periods of time.
  • Maintains a safe environment for personnel and machinery, while following all company safety manuals and company safety procedures and initiatives.
  • Successfully learns, completes, and demonstrates performance of the curriculum specified in the Offset Second Press Operator role and participates in cross-training activities to further knowledge of press department practices. Training curriculum checked off and certified within 6 months of hire / transfer.
  • Certifies on Lead Offset Press Operator functions. Trains with Lead Operator by 12 months in position and completes sections of the training checklist with 12 months of training.
  • Act as Secondary Offset Press Operator during breaks, vacations, leave of absences, etc., as needed.
Essential Skills And Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • 2 years of manufacturing experience or training and/or a combination of relevant education and experience required. Technical background or training preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing job functions in an ethical manner, while also operating in a team environment to accomplish results.
  • Must possess a positive attitude, have a desire to learn, willing to adhere to processes, cleanliness, and tidiness requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining efficient time management, reliable attendance, and strong work ethic.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and reading skills.
  • Must possess strong math skills as well as proficient computer skills as all job responsibilities include technology, including PC work.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and solve production related problems.
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships with coworkers and Inland leadership team.
  • Must be willing to learn and grow technical skills and abilities within the Press department.
Work Environment
  • Operates in a demanding, fast-paced, people-oriented manufacturing environment with frequent changes and interruptions, and multiple project assignments. Works with a variety of people including vendors, customers, employees, managers, and executives.
Required Work Schedule
  • Saturday – Friday rotating 12-hour shifts; 6:00 pm – 6:00 am
  • Must participate in overtime requirements, as dictated by the Union Contract.
Physical RequirementsMust meet physical demands identified on work screen protocol, including standing for the complete work shift. Must be able to stoop, kneel, and climb a ladder and/or stairs. Vision corrected to 20/40; Must pass Ishihara Color Assessment.
