Innovation Academy Charter School seeks a part-time 0.5 Art teacher for the upcoming school year. Situated in Tyngsboro, MA (near the intersection of routes 3 and 495), IACS draws a diverse student body from neighboring districts, including Lowell, Dracut, and Chelmsford, as well as Tyngsboro. Our community represents 19 languages spoken, 38% students of color, 25% of students on special education plans, and a community of students and staff that identify as LGBTQ.
IACS seeks to serve all students within an academically rigorous and culturally responsive community of learners. At IACS we believe that creative expression is an innate human instinct, a tradition of all world cultures, and an increasingly important skill in contemporary society. The Art Department, which consists of visual fine arts and design, strives to teach students about the technical principles of art while also exposing them to a diversity of artists, styles, and movements from art history and contemporary art. Our goal is to empower students with the skills needed to be independent, creative, analytical, and critical thinkers, as well as successful artists and literate audiences of the arts.
Successful candidates will be passionate learners and collaborators who are invested in the school’s mission and committed to the academic and social-emotional learning of all students. Teachers get to know the whole student body through advisory, Friday choice block (club-like activities that meet on a weekly basis) and Endersession (week long group activities that range from projects on campus to service projects in the community to traveling abroad).
IACS has a strong mentoring program for teachers new to the school and those new to teaching, including career changers. We welcome candidates who are committed to their own professional learning, open to feedback, and committed to collaboration.
IACS is working hard to hire staff that represent the backgrounds and cultures of all of our students. Please note that the school has access to state grant funding designed to encourage diversity among our new hires with funds for relocation, loan repayment and tuition assistance. We strongly encourage candidates to celebrate their diversity and to inquire about the grant funded programs.
