Superintendent (Environmental) – Concord, CA

Innovative Construction Solutions (ICS) is an environmental remediation contractor with Hazardous Waste and Demolition certifications, licensed in the State of California. We service the entire state of California out of offices in Costa Mesa and Dublin. ICS owns and operates a large fleet of specialty and heavy equipment. ICS provides soil and groundwater remediation, geotechnical and specialty civil construction, facility closures and demolition services throughout California.

ICS is seeking qualified Superintendents to direct and drive projects to completion and administer the efforts of required subcontractors. The Superintendent communicates on a regular basis with ICS Project Manager, ICS Clients, Agency Reps and subcontractors regarding the project, project timeline, and project startup and staffing requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include , but not limited to the following:

• Hold daily tailgate meetings. All crew will attend and participate in the tailgate, as well as be ready for work in the proper PPE. At the tailgate, site hazards and key Safe Behaviors will be discussed, and a visual PPE inspection will be conducted.
• Daily Permit to Work/AHA: Discuss with the entire crew the day’s activities and hazards associated with each task.
• Review Individual assignments
• Ensure equipment and tool inspections are conducted daily, to ensure equipment and tools are in good working order, at all times.
• Maintain accurate daily notes and field logs.
• Responsible for coordinating and scheduling required subcontractors for each project
• Responsible for determining materials needed and timing of delivery to perform work
• Perform daily reporting of labor, equipment, and material utilization, along with daily production (essential for tracking daily job costs).
• Review approved budget against actual job costs and production factors with Project Manager.
• Responsible for knowing scope of work and identifying change order conditions
• Perform H&S related activities.
• All other duties as assigned by Management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• A positive attitude and willingness to encourage co-workers
• knowledge and understanding of field fit, in-situ system installs
• Pipe fitting and underground plumbing experience
• Knowledge of general water treatment systems
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Experience in supervising construction projects
• Ability to set priorities and exercise flexibility where necessary
• Ability to read and understand Plans, Specifications, schematics and other construction documents
• Ability to check grade and verify elevations using a laser
• Understanding of proper safety procedures and recognition of hazards
• Strong persuasive and interpersonal skills
• Ability to identify and meet our customer’s needs, expectations and requirements
• Must be a team player and create a positive environment
• Must be a self-starter and problem solver
• Must be capable of managing multiple tasks under time constraints
• Must posses the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
• Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients and others
• Must be flexible and willing to work overtime as needed, including weekends.

Education/Training:

• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience in civil construction with emphasis on excavation and grading
• 40-Hr HAZWOPER or current 8-Hr HAZWOPER Refresher Certification
• Current CPR/First Aid training certification
• Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation

Physical Demands while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to walk and stand for long periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required for this job include vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. without aid.
