Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a PRN (on-call) Surgical Technologist to join our dedicated Labor and Delivery Room team. This PRN position may require evening, nights, and weekends.

Position Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. If no surgical technologist experience, then must have graduated within the last year.
• 1 Year Surg Tech experience or equivalent
• Recent Hospital experience and/or previous practice experience preferred
• Surgical Technologist registration required
• Must be eligible for Surgical Technologist registration via Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire. Registration must be completed within 6 months of hire.
• BLS via AHA required upon start
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) via NCCT preferred

Job Responsibilities:

• Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of anatomy and is able to anticipate the required instrumentation for each step of a surgical procedure.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice in the role of the first scrub.
• Keeps the circulating nurse informed of upcoming patient care needs.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of aseptic and surgical techniques.
• Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field and applies principles of asepsis.
• Demonstrates collaboration with other team members in planning/giving patient care. Actively shares knowledge with staff regarding instrument sets/techniques and procedures. Demonstrates appropriate use of emergency equipment, supplies, and resources.
• Serves as a resource in at least 2 specialty areas/procedures.
• Performs in preceptor role for new & experienced staff in the scrub role.
• Provides working knowledge of powered instrumentation, video equipment, microscopes, and complex instrumentation, equipment. Assists in the evaluation of new products and equipment.
• Participates in at least one unit-based committee/council and/or accepts individual assignments to work on improving patient care/unit-based issues.
• Documents evidence of at least 20 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 6 formal contact hours.
