The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards and acts as a resource to radiography students and other technologists to ensure optimal department functions. Administers sound patient care practice according to hospital and department policies/procedures to ensure the safety of patients. Demonstrates radiation protection/safety for patients, staff, and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines. Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations while demonstrating the initiative for self-development to ensure the proficiency of staff with new technological changes.

Shift: Full Time

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am-4:00pm; no on-call; no holidays (flexible on hours)

Job Responsibilities

* Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiologic principles, theory, anatomy and pathology processes by utilizing the most appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations. Adheres to department policies and protocols by ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation. Confidently operates radiological equipment in all care settings (i.e. fluoroscopy, trauma, Emergency department and the Operating Room). Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding. Operates Imaging and other related equipment according to manufacturers' specifications. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast under the American College of Radiology guidelines.

* Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent from patients' and/or patients' charts to assist physicians in optimizing the performance and interpretation of examinations. Explains procedures to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation. Correctly identifies patients and their files while ensuring a high degree of accuracy. Tracks patients according to department procedures.

* Assists physicians in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques.

* Assists in triaging patients

Requirements for Consideration:

* Graduate of an accredited radiology school or program.

* American Registered Radiologic Technologists within 12 months of hire;

* Licensed Radiologic Technologist Upon Start Must be licensed as required by the state of employment if employed at an Inova Health System free-standing Imaging Center not affiliated with an Inova hospital.

* One year of combined classroom and clinical training in radiology. Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a Radiologic Technologist or student. OR experience is required.

* Basic Life Support Certification

* Experience in drawing blood preferred.
