The University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas has an enrollment of close to 47,000 students with 185 buildings and 12 residence halls on 900 acres.
Risk Management Services’ programs provide proactive support for the strategic, operational, and financial foundation of the University of North Texas.
We help identify, analyze, and mitigate risks to prevent loss and provide a safe and healthy campus environment so that the UNT community can freely pursue opportunities for growth and advancement.
To achieve our goals, we work together with the UNT community to help them proactively manage risks, implement preventative measures, plan for their challenges, and work through any issues that occur.
Position Overview
The campus Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Officer plays a key role in maintaining a safe environment for the University of North Texas (UNT) students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
This position is responsible for proactive fire prevention measures through inspections, drills, permits, and training initiatives.
This includes conducting regular inspections of buildings and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) while identifying potential hazards and ensuring their correction.
The FLS Officer also plays a part in supporting safe event operations. The role demands a strong understanding of fire codes and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse campus personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of experience in safety administration, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required License / Registration / Certifications
TCFP Basic Fire Inspector certification is required within one year of the start date for those who do not currently hold a valid inspector certification.
