Position Summary

Responsible for safeguarding the Museum's collections, temporary exhibitions, property, employees, and visitors through highly proactive, appropriately preemptive, and immediately responsive action.

Inspects and patrols all Museum spaces on foot, including onsite and offsite event and program spaces; monitors and operates computerized alarm, access, and closed circuit television systems;

Maintains and files security logs and reports, and performs other Security duties as assigned by Supervisors and management.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

  • 2 years Experience in the security field and experience in radio dispatching, use of Video Monitoring / Access Control systems, patrol tactics, report writing, and working in a team-oriented environment. (Required)
  • General knowledge of Museum or Hotel / Hospital / High Rise security best practices (Preferred)
  • General knowledge of First Aid, CPR, and AED. (Preferred)
  • Keen ability to observe, report, and respond to safety and security issues in both public and sensitive museum areas; ability to think on one's feet, exercise good judgment, and respond appropriately. (Required)
  • Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public in a high volume, continuous-public-contact setting; ability to maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility;

ability to provide excellent customer service. (Required)

  • In the event of a security- or safety-related incident, ability to interact with and speak to persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to provide and / or obtain necessary information. (Required)
  • Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating well with colleagues; ability to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, high level of initiative, assertiveness in regard to safety and security matters, and a commitment to the department's and Museum's success and continuous improvement. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of standard security practices and systems, including computerized security and closed circuit television systems;

ability to adapt quickly to changing systems, procedures, and technologies. (Required)

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing, including effective radio communication, log reporting, and report writing skills. (Required)
  • Ability to follow directions and complete all assignments thoroughly and with attention to detail. (Required)
  • Excellent judgment in responding to questions from visitors and colleagues, seeking information within the organization, and reporting necessary information to supervisors. (Required)
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. (Required)
  • Performance of essential functions and duties including ability to remain alert at all times, regular moderate physical mobility, and exertion in walking, climbing stairs, and standing for several hours and strenuous physical activity related to responding to emergencies (Required)
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and to be able to discern details in different lighting and time of day Must be able to talk, hear, smell, bend, twist, reach, pull in addition to having manual dexterity and visual acuity to read and view computer and video monitors. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check : A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, and varying shifts as required per operational needs (Required)

Schedule

Sunday - Tuesday : 3 : 45pm - 12 : 15am; Friday - Saturday : 12 : 00am - 8 : 00am
