Insight Surgical Hospital is a small, friendly, and minimally invasive surgical center and clinic with patient services second to none! We are proud of our fast-paced, patient-focused, team-oriented environment with professionals in neurology, orthopedics, pain management, chiropractic, gastroenterology, podiatry specialties and more. Every member of our team is crucial to the patient experience and our success! Our Hospital and Clinic do not treat general illnesses, including COVID-19, and has required health safety measures in place for everyone prior to entering the facility, including temperature and symptom checks, required PPE and other health hygiene measures.
Job Summary:
Insight Surgical Hospital is seeking a compassionate and team oriented Registered Nurse to join our Medical Staff in order to provide patient care second to none! The Pre-Admission Testing RN role will be responsible for contacting patients within 72 hours after receiving the boarding sheet to collect medical and surgical history in order to document this information for the Medical Doctor of Anesthesia. This information is to ensure the patient has no surgical contradictions and the patient’s physiological baseline is obtained prior to the performance of the procedure. The Registered Nurse will also schedule and follow-up on clearances associated with their co-morbidities making sure all standard and recorded tests and lab work is completed and part of their file for approval to proceed with planned surgery.
Duties:
  • Practices excellent phone etiquette and patient triage skills while being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources
  • Comfortable with performing a verbal assessment with patient prior to admission, while communicating and documenting this information to the appropriate parties
  • Ensures pre-operative care requirements of the patient is being accomplished through the use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Maintains and promotes patient’s safety by assessing physical and psychological needs
  • Responds to inquiries in regard to expressed needs of the caller and performs outbound calls as need in a timely manner
  • Alerts the Medical Doctor of Anesthesia of lab results, physical assessments, and/or special needs of said individual with medical problems prior to date of surgery
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Hospital’s policies, protocols and safety plans
  • Collaborates with healthcare team to identify patient cases; manages and provides care planning and post-discharge planning
  • Takes initiative in developing cohesive and team-oriented relationships with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals
  • Evaluates and reports patient health outcomes and works in partnership with our healthcare team to facilitate patient care second to none
  • Guides, intervenes and advocates on the patient’s behalf t in regard to navigating and comprehending the healthcare system
  • Schedules pre-op appointments for patients with our advanced practice providers and preps charts for these visits.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates eligibility to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • As Associates’ Degree from a school of nursing is required
  • Current Licensure from the State of Michigan
  • Current BLS certification
  • RN has 60 days from the date of hire to obtain ACLS certification
  • Previous PACU, ambulatory, critical care or general nursing experience is preferred
  • Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.

Physical Requirements:
  • May be expected to lift up to 50 pounds or up to 150 pounds with assistance. May be expected to push or pull 150-300 pounds with assistance.
  • Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty.
  • Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required.
  • Optimal auditory acuity required.
  • Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit.
  • May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgement as to precautions needed to be taken is essential.
  • Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team.
  • Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility.
  • Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily surgical schedule.
