Therapeutic Infusion Nurse
General Description
Under indirect supervision, provides professional outpatient IV therapies and injections, and coordinates the delivery of oncology treatments to assigned patients in a medical facility, ensuring adherence to hospital or department policies and nursing procedures, standards, and practices.
Responsibility
Provides direct nursing care for specified patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements and other treatments as prescribed. Performs nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients. Provides education to patient, families, and significant others.
Accountability
The RN Therapeutic Infusion Nurse reports directly to the Acute Care Services Manager.
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and current Colorado RN license. Must have documentation of current BLS certification. Current ACLS certification from the American Heart Association, or must be obtained within one year of hire. Current Chemotherapy certification, or must be obtained within 1 year of employment
Experience: Previous experience in caring for chronic disease patients preferred. Previous experience with mobilizing community resources, navigating patients through the healthcare continuum, and working with disparate populations preferred.
Skills: Knowledge of oncology treatment procedures, facilities, and equipment. Knowledge of supportive care principles and techniques for oncology patients. Knowledge of the nature and treatments of oncological disease and of reactions and side effects of related therapy methods. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
