Product Manager

Job Summary: The Product Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of a specific product or product line (as part of a total curriculum portfolio managed by the curriculum manager) in collaboration with the product development team and project manager. This role oversees the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design to launch, post-launch evaluation, and ongoing maintenance. The Product Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product delivery, Marketing Communications (MarCom), and customer support to deliver high-quality products that meet customer needs and achieve business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Development:
    • Collaborate with Curriculum Manager and Strategic Product Team (SPT) to define product vision, goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs). These may include the number of courses sold, customer satisfaction ratings, and lagging indicators such as customer application of course material, engagement in post-course activities, LMS and peer network participation, and repeat customer rates.
    • Develop and execute comprehensive product strategy and roadmap that aligns with the organizational and product goals and market demands.
    • Collaborate with Curriculum Manager and Product Managers to create a cohesive learning experience and complementary portfolio of products.
    • Contribute to and leverage customer data, market research and competitive analysis to identify customer needs and opportunities for product innovation. Document and recommend these improvements to SPT.
  • Product Lifecycle Management:
    • Collaborate with project manager to ensure execution of the entire product lifecycle for their assigned product(s), including ideation, design, development, launch, and post-launch activities.
    • Provide a vision for the product by defining the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and the definition of done for each product.
    • Regularly review product progress and consult with development teams to ensure the product is on track to deliver as promised, from initial concept through final release.
    • Provide iterative feedback on the product being developed to align the product experience with customer needs.
    • Continuously monitor product performance, gather user feedback, and recommend improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with MarCom to support the development and execution of effective product marketing strategies and campaigns.
    • Work closely with product delivery teams to ensure products meet quality standards and customer expectations.
    • Collaborate with customer support teams to address customer inquiries, issues, and feedback.
  • Customer and Market Focus:
    • Oversee competitive product evaluation
      • Maintain awareness of customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape by assigning team members to conduct audits and reviews of competitive products, developing and maintaining a comprehensive guide or template to capture relevant data from these evaluations and ensuring the gathered insights are systematically reviewed and integrated into course recommendations and other strategic initiatives.
    • Engage with customers, partners, and industry experts to gather insights and validate product concepts.
    • Advocate for the customer in all product decisions and ensure a customer-centric approach to product development.
  • Performance Analysis and Reporting:
    • Periodically audit the courses in their product line.
    • Collaborate with Data Analytics team to track and analyze product performance metrics to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on product status, performance, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
    • Use data-driven insights to inform product decisions and prioritize initiatives.
Non-Essential Duties:
  • Routinely check email correspondence and associated attachments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Agriculture, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product management, project management, or a closely related field.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Required:
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of delivering products on time.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Understanding of market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and prioritize initiatives based on business impact.
  • Proficiency with product management tools and software.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Strongly Preferred:
  • Proven experience managing the entire product lifecycle from concept to launch and ongoing maintenance.
  • Experience in agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with learning science and instructional design principles.
  • Familiarity with marketing strategies and tactics for product promotion.
  • Ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
