On our Back End team, you will gain experience working on InstaHub’s Logger Dashboard – a cloud-based platform designed to help customers track, analyze, and optimize their building operations to maximize energy savings while keeping the building(s) safe and comfortable.

Role DescriptionAs a Back End Developer Intern, you will work on the development of InstaHub’s cloud analytics web application platform.You will communicate with the UI/UX, Front End, and Back End development team daily. You will help identify requirements and solutions, design and write well-designed, testable code, and produce documentation to integrate software components into a fully functional and secured software system. We expect you to help with determining operational feasibility along with troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading existing software.
We have deployed and will continue to deploy dataloggers (or ''loggers'') into multiple buildings, collecting 5 sensor data points (space utilization, temperature, humidity, pressure, and light) over time in each room. Our objective is to provide an easy to read visualization of the logger data (Phase 1), automate pattern detection and segmentation (Phase 2), and automate the recommendation of alerts (Phase 3) to help building managers make evidence-based decisions in energy saving projects, ultimately tackling the ~40% of global carbon emissions that buildings currently contribute to climate change.
You will also have one weekly intern bonding session Tuesdays at 3pm EST and one weekly company-wide meeting on Fridays at 3pm EST. You will also be invited to attend regular game nights and speaker evenings.
Responsibilities IncludeTraining to leverage tools/services like AWS, SQL
Collaborating with the Front End, Data Science/Data Analytics, and Product UI/UX Design teams to advance our existing Logger Dashboard
Documenting and testing new software applications
Debugging and testing code
Assist in development of data processing web applications
Communicating with other team members about project status and issues that arise
Conducting research on new technologies and techniques to identify opportunities for improvement

Experience in version control e.g. Git/Github
Proficiency in Python
Proficiency in SQL and database management
A strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
Great problem-solving skills
Great verbal & written communication skills
We prefer ideal candidates to have: **
Familiarity with AWS–specifically, EC2, RDS, VPC, Cognito, Lambda, S3, and/or Amplify
Experience designing/building APIs
Experience with creating online dashboards.
Experience with, or exposure to, daily scrum meetings
Experience with IoT
