Job Description

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) is a Florida-based, nonprofit corporation specializing in criminal justice (law enforcement focus) and homeland security issues. In addition to several other national justice programs and projects, IIR's Center for Law Enforcement Safety and Wellness manages national-level officer safety and wellness programs that support state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement, their agencies, and families in their efforts to strengthen their strategies, techniques, and behaviors to ensure that officers and agencies are healthy and able to answer the public safety needs in their communities. Current programs include the VALOR Officer Safety and Wellness Training and Technical Assistance Program, the National Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers Program, CorWellness: A National Corrections Safety and Wellness Initiative, the forthcoming National Prison Partnership website, and as a partner with the National Policing Institute on the National Law Enforcement Roadway Safety Program. Position Description

The senior research associate for the Center for Law Enforcement Safety and Wellness possesses extensive knowledge and experience in developing and delivering technical assistance to support implementation of program-related training and may provide on-site facilitation. This position also provides support to all areas of program engagement and requires significant knowledge and experience in project subject matter.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced research, issue identification, analysis, and resolution and may provide briefing on results
  • Serve as lead on developing and delivery of training and technical assistance requested by public safety agencies for a variety of safety and wellness topics
  • Design engaging modalities for technical assistance delivery options
  • Assist in identifying and developing a cadre of subject experts and projects that could be used in the delivery of technical assistance
  • Manage and track training and technical assistance requests, delivery, and assessment activities
  • Develop, coordinate, and review documents and outreach products
  • Coordinate and facilitate on-site and virtual technical assistance events
  • Facilitate group discussions and informational presentations
  • Work with key stakeholders, including government agencies, to plan and coordinate criminal justice services to the field
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing with agency executives, senior officials, coworkers, and others
  • Develop project plans and serve as lead to oversee task teams or short- and long-term specialized projects
  • Other duties, as assigned

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required (professional law enforcement training and/or certifications may substitute for a bachelor's degree)
  • Master's degree or PhD in criminal justice or related field preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of directly related experience or a combination of education and professional experience
  • Knowledge of the criminal and juvenile justice systems, law enforcement background, and/or experience in law enforcement preferred
  • Ability to analyze complex issues from various stakeholder perspectives at both the macro and micro levels and develop strategies to ensure successful outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen to interact with many different departments and decision-makers within and outside the organization

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Most work is performed in a highly productive and fast-paced virtual office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Employees must be able to maintain a quiet remote office space that is free of distractions. Some assignments may require travel.
