ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a job coach for our garden-based work-readiness training program, GEM. GEM utilizes the garden environment to teach transferable work skills to people with disabilities. The focus is to help our clients build soft skills such as teamwork, how to stay focused, and interpersonal communication – all necessary skills to be successful in the workplace. Experience working in a garden is not essential, but an interest in learning about growing and harvesting both botanicals and vegetables is very important. We currently grow botanicals for a local skincare company based in Sausalito.

This can be a part- or full-time position, 25 hours per week position, $20-22/hr depending on experience. Hours are approximately Monday, Thursday and Friday 9am-2:30pm, Tuesday 11am-3:30pm and Wednesday 9am-3:30pm. Work locations include our two garden sites in San Rafael and Novato.

DUTIES

• Train and instruct clients in gardening skills and garden/site upkeep.

• Train and instruct clients in soft skills such as staying focused, interpersonal communication, punctuality, etc.

• Model professionalism and a strong work ethic to clients.

• Write monthly client reports: ability to use an Excel template and compose a summary of client progress is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Computer skills: Microsoft Word, ability to use or learn how to use an Excel document, Email, Google Calendar, Zoom (for staff meetings) and time tracking app.

• Candidates must possess strong interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable interacting with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

• Valid California driver's license with proof of insurance required background check will be conducted

  • Lift up to 20lbs

  • Bend, stoop and kneel

  • Work outdoors, tolerate changes in weather and walk on uneven terrain
