Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

We are looking for a dedicated Manual Machinist to join our Litchfield, Minnesota team. As a Manual Machinist for IPS, you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Utilize manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery, following safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in drawings, sketches, and blueprints.
  • Operate manual machining tools, including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drilling machines.
  • Safely use overhead and gantry cranes, lift trucks, and associated lift rigging.
  • Perform mechanical measurements using portable instruments like dial indicators, micrometers, and portable vibration measurement equipment.
  • Record necessary data for expected service and design results, including sizing and illustrations.
  • Conduct milling operations (drilling, tapping, boring) with various engine lathes.
  • Apply metalizing techniques and understand materials and applications.
  • Perform welding operations (MIG, TIG, torch, stick), tool-post grinding, broaching, and Babbitt bearing work.
  • Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust, and secure heavy objects for work and safety.
  • Observe safety procedures, use proper protective gear, and maintain a clean work area.
  • Assist other machinists and departments as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor, including machine work, producing drawings, and providing on-the-job training.
  • Requisition supplies for the Machine Department and meet with manufacturers' representatives.
  • Test manufacturers' materials and requisition equipment through the Repair Department Manager or Plant Manager.
  • Check repair data and schedule/prioritize Machine Department work.
  • Comply with company memos, observe safety procedures, and direct personnel in proper safety protocols.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews, carry out disciplinary actions, and coordinate workflow with other supervisors.
  • Ensure tool and equipment availability and proper condition.
  • Direct machinists in Machine Department maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the shop manager, including outside field service repair, or estimating work.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 3 or more years of experience as a machinist for electric motor repair preferred
  • Ability to read micrometer measuring equipment
  • Ability to foster good employee/supervisor relations and build team effort.
  • Ability to promote strong company image with customers and vendors.
  • Ability to operate manual lathes of various size and dimensions
  • Ability to operate electro-plating equipment
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs.
