Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Sanford, NC

Job Summary/Description:

• The main function of a design engineer is to apply the principles of mechanical engineering to the design, development, testing, and validation of engine installation components.
• A typical design engineer understands all functional requirements for a new design and understands the root cause of a failing existing design to provide validated solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design engine installation components to satisfy all cross functional requirements and collaborate with component suppliers to optimize for cost, quality and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with the test and validation team to establish necessary activities to deliver fully validated designs.
• Manage project list to ensure all deadlines are met. Ensure validated root causes are identified for any failed components as well as developing fully validated solutions.

• Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time. Strong problem solving skills including root cause identification and development of fully validated solutions.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required. 7-10 years experience required.

Position's Contribution to Work Group:

• Major Job Duties and Responsibilities: Develop designs to meet customer requirements during new product development.
• Plan and support the execution of validation of designs both in controlled settings and possibly with actual customer applications.
• Collaborate with supply chain engineering and manufacturing to bring solutions to market in a timely and cost efficient fashion.

Typical Day:

• As an engineer on the Engine System Team the successful candidate will support the resolution of critical customer issues and new designs as part of new product development involving the engine installation on small construction equipment.
• The engineer will work as a member of a cross functional team that includes other Engine System Team members, various other system and machine group engineers, manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain personnel.
• The key deliverables will be fully developed and validated designs complete with drawings that have been reviewed for manufacturability. -Some flexibility on hours

Critical Technical Skills Required:

• Some kind of 3D modeling such as, Proficient in Creo/Pro-E,

Desired: general understanding of machinery and construction equipment, general understanding of engines and engine installation, and validation and instrumented testing methods.

Soft Skills Required:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, -Ability to work in a team / collaborative environment, and strong planning and organizing skills necessary to deliver projects on time.
